While most people accurately associate Sonoma with wine, it also has a very important historical significance in California’s history. It was the northern most location of the Spanish Missions and was a bulwark against Russian incursion. Several countries flags flew over this area over the years.

While sight seeing we decided to quench our thirst.






For some reason I don’t recall everything I sampled…. So here is the list of possibilities. Everything this place made was from fruit, nothing from grain.

Passing through Placerville on Hwy50, no trip to the area would be complete without a stop at the location that helped launch California into statehood.

We drove through Plymouth on our way to Marshal Gold Discovery State Park, very nice area. Did not get a chance to sample any wine- to be honest my liver was in rebellion and needed a break.

Breakfast at an excellent local Basque Restaurant.

The sausages and tamale are chorizo.

After dinner and drinks we walked around the Capital area of Carson City.

Some cool markers for the Pony Express.

They did a Centennial Reenactment Ride in 1960.

There was also a Kit Carson Statue.

We have see lots of Jeeps in town.

This banner was hanging on a light post downtown.

This Jeep looks strangely familiar.

Cool post. Prompted a great lunch diversion looking into it's history. Can't imagine what that was like riding.
