what a read. love it BUT now I'm confused of what I am:thinking:. Being a noob I never realized that people gave a shit what type of wheeling you did .How funny is that.Glad I came to this sight where it doesn't mater. I think I'll be a Noob Wheelin little rock crawling overlanding grocery getin driving to work wishing I had a bigger jeep jeeper. :whew:Thanks WAL for letting me be me.

Yesterday I was out with the club here, one of the guys gave me some insight on an overland rig. He said they should look as stock as possible 2 to 3" lift 33-35" tires full width bumpers, they prefer aev or ome lifts because they are designed to keep the rig level while loaded down, yet offer more flex the stock. I told him what does look have to do with it as long as they pack the gear needed to make the trip, and can go over what it's pointed at.

If they go with AEV they may need 37's to make up for the lost ground clearance with the relocation brackets. :cheesy:

Most of the Jeeps AEV builds have a 4" lift with 37s and a Hemi. Its all just a personal opinion. As long as you build your rig to get you where you want to go thats all that matters.

"Looks" are definitely important to self-proclaimed overlanders but, a Jeep that sags due to too much weight is a Jeep that may bottom out while traversing bumpy sections of trail. The AEV coils are dual rate and so the theory behind them is that the heavy duty portion of coil will do a better job of supporting extra weight. And, while it will help, the softer end of the coil that would normaly provide a softer ride will be solid and offer no ride
comfort at all. Also, this crazy notion that you'd somehow get more flex is just wishful thinking at best. You just cannot make a coil made to hold up a ton of weight to do a good job of stuffing. I should note that ARB just uses a single but heavier rate coil and they work just as well to carry a heavy load.

This is true and for a company that is so loved by the overlanding world, it's something I find ironic.
