Project Blue Jeep

Another long day down.
Had to pull the cage.
Not that big of a job except for the two t45-security bolts. Why security? I have no fucking idea why two of these bolts needed to be little assholes. Snapped two different bits before I said fuck it and grabbed the grinder. There’s not another security torx head on the entire rest of Jeep. Makes no sense.

And again floor pan is far too large to patch in from the top. So start the cutting.

That is a great trick!

You are making a ton of progress. That is just a ton of work.

Here’s a question you might know the answer too, that LJ my neighbor has that had the main seal go, now cant maintain speeds above 60 after the shop replaced the main seal. I haven’t driven it on the highway, but from what they tell me, it’s shifting fine, but doesn’t have any power. I have driven it around town and it’s accelerating fine. There are no lights on the dash and it sounds fine at idle. Is that motor not holding compression?

Uhhh. Something doesn’t sound right. 4.0’s don’t need oil or compression and will still drive fine 🤣 it was an auto right?
If you punch the gas does it drop a gear? Sounds like the kick down cable might not be adjusted right. Goes from throttle body to trans.

Done with the driver side. Gonna our the rest arms back on tomorrow then move to the passenger side frame and tub channel. Luckily not floors too. (Yet)
Haven’t decided what kind of finish the inner tub is getting. Probably raptor liner, either way I’m running the carpet. Might wait on that a bit. I’ve got enough projects on this thing right now.

Hopefully it as simple as the kick down cable. It does drop down when you punch it.

You are making a ton of progress, looks great

Back on the ground,
rear arms back on. Look how much taller it sits with body mounts! Picked up about 3” in the front. Granted the driveline and gas tank aren’t in it, but still, wooo body mounts.

Back off the ground,
Round two.
IMG_7418.jpg

I got really excited when I started digging into their side as I thought the frame felt solid, the skid plate nuts were good, just clean it up and paint it and save all the work (and ugly welding) of that 3’ piece

IMG_7423.jpg

Then I grinded it up and found the weak spots

Damnit, hope crushed. Oh well.

I think someone put rtv on the exhaust? Never seen that before.

This piece of shit. This tiny bit of metal. Stood between me and finishing this shit for three damn days. Multiple tools. Many trips back and forth to stores, and a likely broken finger.

Today I beat it. Stupid piece of shit blown out pilot bearing.

IMG_7530.jpg

New one in.
Sanded the flywheel to remove glaze.
Threw clutch on.
IMG_7529.jpg

Put the new throwout bearing and fork clip on
IMG_7528.jpg

Tried to get the trans in for about 45 minutes but just couldn’t get the input in right.
Took off the transfer case, got it in. Put back on the transfercase.
IMG_7532.jpg

Connected exhaust
Put starter back on.
Lost a nut for the clutch slave so left that off for now.
Front driveshaft
Rewired everything back on and routed the loom and breather hoses.

Reinstalled the stick shift and transfercase selector

It’s hot today. Reassembled the interior. Did last of the rust removal and paint, letting it dry overnight then should be a day left.

I stopped taking pictures, just want to be done.

Brakes bled
Fenders on

Only way to flip the hood without hitting the garage door track is to pull the valve stems out of the front tires.

IMG_7580.jpg

Kinda done. Little things will need to be finished, things checked over and retightened.
Clutch grabs as it should and no slipping, pedal resistance is way way less and I can’t figure out if air bubble I pumped into the system or feel of a new clutch pressure plate.

Took it for a quick drive and there’s a few areas I need to address but as a whole this brings a close to this project.

A well deserved beer, after all that work.

What a project!
