I was hoping to have some cool pics to add to this thread. This pond was right off the trail too. I'll check it out next year.

Time to revive this thread! Just found it and read through it. Some beautiful catches especially some of the saltwater stuff Brute. Saltwater is hands down my favorite. The wife and I were running errands this past Saturday, and I happened to still have mine and my son's rods in the truck. So, I took my 3 year old fishing for the first time at a little public pond we found while out and about. Didn't catch anything but made some awesome memories. He's definitely hooked as he proceed to "fish" with a pool noodle out of the buggy while at Target right after this. Hopefully, we'll drop the boat in the water over the next couple of weeks so we can get him some blue gill.

Dang man, I hate to hear that. I will definitely keep that in mind. I always try to drop what I'm doing anytime he asks to go do something like fish, work in the yard, help on the Jeep, etc. Cherish every moment I can get. And yes, post them up when you find them.

I took my son Jakob on his first off shore trip he landed a 33lb Bluefin on a Wal-Mart spinning combo with 25# test, and what I ended up with.

I have been out of the fishing game for awhile since I moved from Texas to Cali. I have a 3 year old and I can't wait to get him out and fish with him.
To me it's hard to beat a calm morning and flipping that top water, hearing that pop then gulp.
Lord have mercy it's a 5lb bass! (Robert Earl Keen)

There are few places with some big ass largemouth in Cali. Just so many hobbies and so little time. When I lived in Texas life was a bit simpler. I need to make some time to fish as I really do miss it.

Fishing was one of the first things my dad & I did together about when I was 5. One of my favorite memories was when I was 12...we had a trout fishing competition every year during trout season; we kept a tally on a sheet taped to the fridge. On the last day of the season, I was ahead by two fish...I saw my dad load his fishing gear in his truck as he got ready to go to work...I knew he was going to fish till dark right after work to try to beat me. I decided to hedge my bet, and cut out of school to fish all day to get my limit of 6 fish. As I was working the local stream by our house, I looked across the creek...and there was my dad fishing; he called in sick to fish. It was the only time I cut school to fish or hunt and I didn't get the belt...

I moved to Hawaii in 1977, and didn't see my dad much after...he got sick, and didn't tell anyone (it was his way)... I flew to see him in the hospital. We watched the Super Bowl together as I held his hand. He died the next morning of brain cancer...he was 53.

Having lived here in Hawaii for over forty years, I've been fortunate to catch every conceivable pelagic specie that swims the ocean, including many large marlin, tuna, mahi & ono...all of the nearshore species & bottom fish. I've travelled all over the world to exotic fishing locations to catch fish. Now, I really enjoy doing what I did as a kid, wading small streams in the woods, enjoying the solitude of the outdoors, trying to catch a wild trout...it reminds me of my dad.

I'm so thankful that I spent quality time with my son before he passed, he too fished since he was 5, we backpacked the Sierras trout fishing, went bass, and ocean fishing, rode dirt bikes together, and he was always up for a jeep trail. A good friend of mine has a house in Hilo and we go holo holo every time I visit, I love fishing the Islands.
