The next chapter in the book, looking for ideas/thoughts for the foundation!

Caught the Bug
Well now that Weston is offically on it's way to the East coast and several hours of deep discussion with my amazing wife it's time to start looking for that perfect foundation for the next JKU maybe (R). I'm at the point where I'm ready and able to purchase it but am unsure on what to do. I will not be starting the deep build of this rig until late in the summer/early fall (hopefully a trip to ORE :thumb:) but I'm ready to find her. The wife say's I look like a sad and depressed puppy dog when I'm Jeepless.

So my thoughts for the foundation are either buy a 15 Sport/Rubi now, in white, which I am having a real hard time with the 15 colors, nothing stands out to me (to each their own). I like white but I'm not 100% sold on it (lots of whites out there but love the fact it will hide the scratches). I have also thought about waiting until the 16's arrive to see the color options and hopefully a diesel but I'm going to have a hard time waiting :bleh:
Does anyone have an rumor ideas if more colors will be available later in 15 or how soon the diesel will be coming available? Besides the added cost is there any other reasons to steer clear of having 3.0L diesel in the JKU?

My other struggle is should I get a JKU rubi or sport?

It's really not much difference in cost by the time I sell the axles, tires and wheels, and don't have to buy an Atlas II t-case. If I go sport I'm going to run an Atlas T-case with the build. My plans for my build are a trip to ORE for DTD, 60 front 80 rear, 40's, and the seats eventually Mastercrafts. The only thing I would actually like that the sport doesn't offer is the 730N head unit.

As I'm typing this the dealer just texted me a 15 Rubi hardrock thats being unloaded from the carhauler right now.... LOL I really like the hardrock (X) hoods. Just don't think the hardrock is the way to go at all with plans to strip it of bumpers, tires, axles, seats, etc...

I would love to hear opinions, thoughts...

I say get a Rubicon so you can at least do some wheeling till you go big. I say join the white side. It never looks dirty. Bobby just get another jeep.

My only advice to you my friend is buy the jeep you want :) exactly what you want. So you don't have to buy a third one lmao. A white Rubicon would be sweet!

Lol, I hear that. This one will fully be mine! Don't want to do this again. I learned so much on the last one. I have a feeling it's gonna be white. :)
Oh, and I was just kidding about the lease.

The one thing I will pass on concerning the diesel is the fact you will have to run DEF which is an additive that is put into a separate tank that gets mixed. At least it is with the farm tractors and pick up trucks I see on the road. I have not researched what the cost of that is but it is an added expense.

If you cannot find the exact Jeep you want then I would recommend building one and waiting for it to arrive. Not sure how that will work with a lease. Another option might be to get a lease return that has not been modded. Again that is just an option. if you go that route check the fair auction value and offer then $2k above that. Do not pay their asking price.

The wife and I were looking at the 2015's and the only two colors I liked were White and Tank. If you get the Rubi, at least you'll be able to sell all of the parts you take out for a decent price.

Thanks Will,
I was just kidding on the lease option. I will be buying it.
I have a 13 Ram work the Cummins and def, I can go over 3000 miles on 4 gallons of def, 15 dollars a the Ole pilot. It's worst if I tow but well worth the savings vs the mpgs of the 12s and old. The def really increased the mpgs.
Buying a returned lease might not be a bad option.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. Just getting the few Rubi options I would like. I like white and black but don't want to wheel a black rig. I'm to picky about scratches. Lol
Maybe I'll just Kevlar the outside. Down the road a long ways.

:cheesy: A good joke never gets old.

You also won't be able to attend any WAYALIFE runs because it may require you to remove your windshield banner for your company that raises awareness for lesser known charities...;) In all seriousness get what you want. I looked for a good 10-12 months once the 12's came out. I almost looked into a dealer trade in New Mexico and Colorado but then my new jeep would have had over 800 miles on it that I paid someone to drive back to So-Cal. Then I had an epiphany and realized that I'd waited this long why not just wait and get what I want. I was finally able to order exactly what I wanted and have been extremely happy with my decision. Don't give into the sales pressure and settle for "what they can find" or "all they have available". Also look into tread lightly to see if they still offer their discount. I think the membership price went up but paying $100 to save 2K is worth it in my opinion. Good luck on this journey take your time and it'll be fine. I agree get the Rubi, but not one of the special editions as you are going to strip that stuff off any way. The special edition options can add several thousand dollars to the bottom line. Save it and put it into the end build.

LOL! Im confused on if this is a "remeber 2014" or not. Please dont make me self-ban. :cheesy:

Edit: My suggestion is a sport. I love my Rubi, but if I were to already be planning 60/80 axles etc, I'd start with a sport.

I know to each there own and the Rubi's have some nice features but if you are going to replace all the axles anyways to a PR44 or bigger, go with a sport. The difference alone would allow you to get a new axle almost immediately.....Just my two cents but either way it will be nice to build a new jeep!

It's $4500 difference between the 2. I'm thinking axles, tires and wheels, I can sell for lets say $3k. Believe the Rubi seats are a little different also. The atlas t-case is around $2500. Plus I'll get the sway bar disconnect. So Rubi it will be now should I wait for the diesel or just the good Ole 3.6L....

I need to live where you do if the difference between a sport and rubi is $4500.......

Don't see to many of these on the trail. Maybe the same issue with the scratches as the copperhead.

The sport equipped the way I want it is $31700 and the Rubi equipped is $36100 Otd. No tax in Oregon. Idk.. try shopping around. I never buy at the first dealer. It started out around $6800 difference. I have found a good dealership that plays ball and it helps that this is my 3 vehicle from them this year.

cool color but not my taste. Sure wish granite was still around, hard to find a used one too. If anyone knows where ones at for sale please share. 2014 granite rubi auto would be a winner for me.
