Show Off Your Guns!

Daughter asked me about something for home protection since she's in the house alone.

She's been to the gun range with me, 9mm handguns, but I'm thinking a shotgun might be a better choice.

Recommendations?
What does your daughter prefer? A 12 gauge kicks hard.

I prefer a 9mm handgun and an AR for a longarm fire home defense. My wife likes her 9mm handgun.

ARs are easier on the shoulder and the manual of arms is simpler than a shotgun.

Again, the best choice for your daughter is up to her. Continue taking her out to shoot different firearms until she finds something she likes and will practice with.

I was thinking something she could point, not necessarily have to focus on aiming but hadn't considered the kick.

We talked a bit and I recommended she signup for a self-defense course with a female instructor at the local range, felt that would be a better option for many reasons but also to reduce both our anxiety levels, she agreed.

You could always just get her a 22 pistol w/ 10+ rounds. No kick, easy to aim and hit. When you consider that most ppl die each year from a 22 round it's not a bad option.

You would feel anxious if she had a male instructor at the range?
Jesus Bob did you ever learn to read for comprehension?
Let me see if I can explain this as if I were speaking to a child, if I were to try and teach her with my limited experience and knowledge and me being her dad, it would probably give us both a certain level of anxiety that we don't want to deal with.
She made the choice to have a female instructor and the female instructor I know at a local gun range is an excellent instructor with many years under her belt.
So Bob, do you understand now?
or are you saying that female instructors aren't as good as any male instructor

How many people have you shot with a 410? From the ballistic gel tests I've seen, seems like it would be decent.
I can tell you a 410 will put a pig down in about 1/10 of a second.
Because Keyboard Kommandos and Self Proclaimed Gurus shooting ballistic gel and pigs have better grasp on terminal ballistics than those who have made a career of analyzing violent encounters for a living.

I am fortunate that I’ve never had to shoot anyone with anything. Therefore, my body count is zero. What’s yours?

Shotguns at across the room distances have very tight patterns and cannot be simply pointed

Good call. It’s important your daughter be comfortable with her instructor.
