What does your daughter prefer? A 12 gauge kicks hard.Daughter asked me about something for home protection since she's in the house alone.
She's been to the gun range with me, 9mm handguns, but I'm thinking a shotgun might be a better choice.
Recommendations?
Because the .410, an inadequate home defense round in an 18” barrel shotgun, is so much better in a 6” handgunLook into the Taurus Judge. It shoots 45 and 410 shot
How many people have you shot with a 410? From the ballistic gel tests I've seen, seems like it would be decent.Because the .410, an inadequate home defense round in an 18” barrel shotgun, is so much better in a 6” handgun
I can tell you a 410 will put a pig down in about 1/10 of a second. How many people have you shot with a 410? From the ballistic gel tests I've seen, seems like it would be decent.
About the same body weight as most of America so good to know.I can tell you a 410 will put a pig down in about 1/10 of a second.
Probably thicker skulls too.About the same body weight as most of America so good to know.

I prefer a 9mm handgun and an AR for a longarm fire home defense. My wife likes her 9mm handgun.
ARs are easier on the shoulder and the manual of arms is simpler than a shotgun.
Again, the best choice for your daughter is up to her. Continue taking her out to shoot different firearms until she finds something she likes and will practice with.
You could always just get her a 22 pistol w/ 10+ rounds. No kick, easy to aim and hit. When you consider that most ppl die each year from a 22 round it's not a bad option.I was thinking something she could point, not necessarily have to focus on aiming but hadn't considered the kick.
We talked a bit and I recommended she signup for a self-defense course with a female instructor at the local range, felt that would be a better option for many reasons but also to reduce both our anxiety levels, she agreed.
22 magnum even better. You could always just get her a 22 pistol w/ 10+ rounds. No kick, easy to aim and hit. When you consider that most ppl die each year from a 22 round it's not a bad option.
