I can't help but feel bad for those guys but part of offf roading is researching a trail and seeing how the conditions are before a trip. Kinda serves them right

I don't know how it works there, but here, most 4x4 roads are gated in the winter for this exact reason. I'm not one for government intrusion, but I've seen a lot of stupid people try to accomplish things beyond their capabilities and it puts them in danger as well as the people who end up having to rescue them.

A lot of people feel this way, and it's probably safest to close off the trails, but I'm a bit of an old fashioned asshole. I think that people should learn from there mistakes. If some idiot wants to try to go on a very rough rocky trail, in the mountains, in the winter... let them go for it.

Rescuers always know going in that they'll end up spending a lifetime saving idiots from themselves, and the idiots (I've been both idiot and rescuer in the past myself.) need to learn from the school of hard knocks. Horror stories of shit gone wrong spreads like wildfire. One idiot can fuck something up, and a thousand will learn from it. I know we need laws, and public safety is a good thing in general, but being stupid should be painful.

That said, I hope everybody made it out, and learned from their mistake.

On the plus side, now we all know where to find some free spare Jeep parts :bleh: just laying around out in the mountains at the Rubicon pick and pull.

Wonder what the salvage laws are out there.

Wonder if they'll get fined for leaving the vehicles out there. Isn't that government owned public land?.

I saw this earlier today about a group that wheeled in yesterday/last night and got stuck in the trail. Two different rigs, in the same group. My first thought was stupid is as stupid does. The first rig is on 35's and is stuck. The water has now frozen and they couldn't get it out. The second rig is on 40's and one of the tires has come off the rim. No spare. Now a group is going to go in on Thursday and try to get the rigs out so they don't have to be there all winter. I'm part of a group here in Utah that helps out when ever we can with guys that get stuck/stranded but I wouldn't go in for these two. Thoughts?

They should make the dumb fucks wait with their jeeps so they can't reproduce. And if they already did, send the offspring with them. The world is too populated.

Not a couple of feet. That ski resorts are all claiming 6-8 ft in the last couple of days. Rubicon area will have rain on snow before the weekend is over, then it will be a skating rink.
