RECOVERY GEAR : A Must Have Before Hitting the Trails
If there's one question I get asked all the time from new Jeepers it's, “what’s the first mod I should do to my Jeep?” And, my answer to them is always the same, “recovery gear”. Fact of the matter is, whether you’re new to the world of off-roading with a right off the show room floor stock...www.wayalife.com
I would get a soft shackle long before I got a j hook. For sake of attempting to recover a non jeep or 4x4 with recover points I also carry a J-hook. It allows you to create a tow point using most holes in the frame or unibody. I was going to get an RTJ cluster but was told by the guy I bought it from that the J-hook would work in 90% of situations and takes up less space.
Not sure how you could attach to a car frame with a soft shackle. The J-hook just gives you a way to create an attachment point for a tow strap or winch if you can't attach the hook anywhere. Tow truck drivers use them all of the time.I would get a soft shackle long before I got a j hook.
Tow truck drivers also use chain and steel cable. Doesn’t mean it’s best for off-road recovery. Not sure how you could attach to a car frame with a soft shackle. Yes there are safer methods out there but if done correctly it can still be done safely. Jerking, yanking, snatching, etc is a good way to do it wrong unless the equipment you are using is designed for that. I wouldn't be yanking on a j-hook, soft shackle, or any type of cable. Slow and smooth all the way.Tow truck drivers also use chain and steel cable. Doesn’t mean it’s best for off-road recovery.
Indeed.Jerking, yanking, snatching, etc is a good way to do it.
^^^^ Good kitWhile this isn’t cheap, it’s a good start and convenient way the bag.
