JUST A BIG THANK YOU FOR PUTING THIS OUT THERE FOR US TO FOLLOW. FOR THOSE OF US LOOKING TO ONE DAY VENTURE DOWN THE SAME PATH, IT SHEDS A TON ON LIGHT ON THE TOIPIC OF LARGE ENGINE SWAPS. THANKS AGAIN.

Glad to hear this thread is helpful to you. Being that you're in Vegas, you can always work directly with MoTech once you're ready to upgrade your Jeep. :yup:

Looks like it' coming along nicely. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Us too. Unfortunately, we'll be up in Tahoe for the better part of July and won't get to wrap this up until we get back.

Never said that you couldn't do it or that it would instantly self-destruct if you did, just that based on my personal experiences, it's not a setup I would feel comfortable running. Unlike some, we do not trailer our Jeeps anywhere regardless of how far the destination or how tough the trail. Because of this, we choose to do what we can to help mitigate breaks to the best of our ability or our finances will allow. Nothing worse than breaking out in the middle of nowhere and no trailer to tow you home especially when it could have been prevented. I should note that it took a little over 2 years for us to finally break our rear semi-float 60 shaft. Time has a way of sneaking up on you.

BTW, high pinion and low pinion is not a reference to the angle of an axle but rather, where the pinion enters the differential. A high pinion will give you better clearance but will have your ring gear pushing on the weak side of the gear. A low pinion setup will cause you to lose ground clearance and force you to operate your drive shaft at a steeper angle but, it will allow your ring gear to be ridden on the strong side. If you've ever broken a ring and pinion on the trail, you'd want to do all that you can to prevent this as well. :yup:

My mistake. I was just shedding some light on this rig for the sake of the conversation. I was blown away that it wasn't self-destructing and because of that became curious about recreating a similar setup for my rig. Regardless, I don't really know anything about high vs. low pinion strength in any situation really.. let alone adding more horsepower. Nor did I consider the fact that nemesis probably trailers their rig to every trail event they attend.

I do appreciate you educating me on the high/low pinion strengths and weaknesses. I really had no idea that's how it worked. Happy I know that now! :thumb:

Sorry for temporarily derailing your thread.

What makes the k specs better than the mud grapplers? I figured they would flex better in the sidewall but is it better to have a tire thats 13.5" wide instead of a 14.5"

You are correct, we are getting a 6-speed auto. 5.38 may be low but, as mentioned, they are what we already have. Before changing anything out, we decided to give it a try and see for ourselves. If it is, we'll deal with it then..

Curious to find out what you think of your gearing!!

Having just got my Jeep finished up and out on the road, I am finding that the gearing might be a touch too much (5.38) here as well. In 4lo mine feels really over geared, almost like I am using an atlas in super low. I need to put more miles on it, and get some off road time in as well before I make up my mind for sure if I like the 5.38's on my setup. Maybe your 6 spd tranny will make it nicer for you than my 5 spd does for me!!!
