No, you can not, the coax resistance is different for co phased. Just replace your coax to the proper 50 ohm and be done with it.

I'd say the learning curve is very minimal, if any... This Midland is my first micro radio, so I can't actually give a solid recommendation until I've owned it for awhile longer. But even with that said, would I buy this Midland 75-822 over again? In a heartbeat! Look at what you get...

From a working installed radio... Coming from the antenna - unplug coax from the 'remote box' of the Cobra 75 (if already connected) and reconnect to back of SWR meter marked "Antenna". Take the 3' patch cord coax ( that hopefully came with your swr meter) and screw one end into Cobra 75's...
