2020 Dirt Experience : Follow the Adventures of MOBY on the 10th Annual JKX

I apologize for not posting an update sooner. Unfortunately, things didn't end well for us on the JKX. Got the new ECM installed and it didn't make a difference. Concerned that our Aeroforce gauge was too old to read Gen-V codes, Robbie sent me a new HP Tuner and that made a big difference in seeing what was really going on. Turns out that the Anti-Theft system code we were getting was really a fuel pressure sensor issue. When Moby's engine quit, Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor 1 was seeing over 95,000 psi. Essentially, an impossible number. More than likely, the sensor itself it bad or the wiring to it is damaged. Either way, it wasn't something I could find or fix out on the trail and so Moby finished up the trip on the chase trailer. :grayno:

Moby is on his way to Motech and we're hoping Robbie will get him up and running again soon.

That blows. Frustrating and disappointing. All the electronics are great when they work, but tough to diagnose and fix on the trail.

It was pretty frustrating for sure. While the main wiring harness is brand new, the fuel injection harness under the intake is what came on the used engine. Needless to say, the problem may be there. I wanted to check the fuel pressure sensor and wiring going to it but unfortunately, it's located on the back of the engine and next to the firewall - a very tough place to get to out on the trail and when everything is stinkin hot.

On the up side, we were with friends and so we weren't left stranded. :cool:
 
Fack! Bummer to hear guys. Looked like y’all were having a good time or, until that point anyway. Hopefully it gets sorted quickly and he’s not stuck in Vegas for another year.

At any rate, great news you were with such a great group and it ended as well as it could. Good luck on getting him back up and in the dirt.
 
Thanks guys. All is good and we still had fun. Fortunately, the problems didn't start until the end of the trip and so we got to do all the big wheeling. Also, I'm happy to know the problem was something simple like a bad sensor. If I had to, this is something I could have taken on in a parking lot.
 
It's always a good thing to be with friends that will jump in and do whatever it takes to get everyone off the trail safely.

It's a bummer for sure but stuff happens even when you go prepared. At least it will be a memorable trip for everyone involved. If everything went off without a hitch it wouldn't make for as interesting of a event.

We still hope to hear the rest of the story.
 
Bummer! But on a positive note.... you can still say you were at the 2020 JKX .... which is more than 99.99% of us could say. So we're still Jealous. :D

And Eddie has shared them with us better than anybody else who has tried.

bummer you couldn't get Moby back out but thanks to you, this issue will get sorted out and those of us considering the swap will benefit :thumb:

Problem didn't start until the end so.... i sense a series of videos on the way??

Good to have friends, the fun will not end here!
 
Sucks to hear that the trip ended like that with Moby. Glad though that you were still able to finish out the trip. Looking forward to the videos to come. Also hoping Moby is fixed up quick so he can get back out on the trail. :thumb:
 
Just got an update from Motech. Being that Robbie didn't see any damage to the sensor, he had his guys follow the wiring back to the computer and... that's where they found this!

As you can see, they found some damage to the harness right where it came off the engine and went up to the fender well. Apparently, it was rubbing on a sharp edge and that damaged a few wires. Needless to say, it looks like Moby will be back up and running again soon! :thumb:

Glad you guys got it figured out!!!

Could have been worse....At least you were with friends and it was at the end of the trip! Can't wait to see the videos and footage, saw some of the stuff in Instagram from you guys, Mel and Synergy and other people like Bubba...etc.

Looks like an awesome trip!
