The following is a SAFETY RECALL that Dynatrac issued for customers who have 1550 Steering Knuckles.
Dear Dynatrac customer:
Dynatrac has discovered a potential defect that could affect the safe and reliable operation of vehicle’s equipped with our Aluminum 1550 steering knuckles.
We are conducting an immediate, voluntary recall. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience, but your safety, and the reliability of your vehicle is our primary concern.
Why are we conducting a recall?
A number of aluminum knuckles sold on Dynatrac front axles have been identified as potentially defective. Dynatrac feels it is our duty to act promptly by immediately recalling a wide number of parts to be sure that we capture all the affected parts.
What is the nature of the defect?
We have discovered that the material used to manufacture a number of the aluminum castings may have a defect that causes cracks to appear at the steering linkage connection points.
What could happen?
This material could cause the steering connections to fail, and possibly result in property damage, injury or death. However, no accidents, crashes, injuries, claims or damage have occurred.
What kits are affected?
We have determined that the possible kits affected were shipped from Dynatrac between February 2016 through November 2020. During this period kits were shipped from Dynatrac to end users, dealers and distributors.
What is Dynatrac doing about the problem?
We will work with you to verify if your parts are part of the recall scope. If we determine your kit is part of the recall, Dynatrac will provide replacement parts directly to you, free of charge. All shipping of the new parts, and the return of suspect parts will be paid for by Dynatrac. Dynatrac will reimburse you for a labor allowance of 2.7 hours at a rate of $90.00 per hour. The maximum total labor reimbursement is $245.00 per vehicle.
The process to replace each knuckle is simple and consists of operations that are performed as part of normal servicing. You may perform the replacement yourself, or take it to a shop that is capable of normal 4x4 service and repairs. Whichever option you choose, Dynatrac will pay you the labor allowance.
How can I identify affected parts?
Contact Dynatrac customer service and we will ask you a few questions to identify your contact information, where and when your axle was purchased and the serial number of your Dynatrac front axle. This information will allow us to do the necessary research to determine if you are affected.
