The following is a SAFETY RECALL that Dynatrac issued for customers who have 1550 Steering Knuckles.

Dear Dynatrac customer:
Dynatrac has discovered a potential defect that could affect the safe and reliable operation of vehicle’s equipped with our Aluminum 1550 steering knuckles.
We are conducting an immediate, voluntary recall. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience, but your safety, and the reliability of your vehicle is our primary concern.

Why are we conducting a recall?
A number of aluminum knuckles sold on Dynatrac front axles have been identified as potentially defective. Dynatrac feels it is our duty to act promptly by immediately recalling a wide number of parts to be sure that we capture all the affected parts.

What is the nature of the defect?
We have discovered that the material used to manufacture a number of the aluminum castings may have a defect that causes cracks to appear at the steering linkage connection points.

What could happen?
This material could cause the steering connections to fail, and possibly result in property damage, injury or death. However, no accidents, crashes, injuries, claims or damage have occurred.

What kits are affected?
We have determined that the possible kits affected were shipped from Dynatrac between February 2016 through November 2020. During this period kits were shipped from Dynatrac to end users, dealers and distributors.

What is Dynatrac doing about the problem?
We will work with you to verify if your parts are part of the recall scope. If we determine your kit is part of the recall, Dynatrac will provide replacement parts directly to you, free of charge. All shipping of the new parts, and the return of suspect parts will be paid for by Dynatrac. Dynatrac will reimburse you for a labor allowance of 2.7 hours at a rate of $90.00 per hour. The maximum total labor reimbursement is $245.00 per vehicle.

The process to replace each knuckle is simple and consists of operations that are performed as part of normal servicing. You may perform the replacement yourself, or take it to a shop that is capable of normal 4x4 service and repairs. Whichever option you choose, Dynatrac will pay you the labor allowance.

How can I identify affected parts?
Contact Dynatrac customer service and we will ask you a few questions to identify your contact information, where and when your axle was purchased and the serial number of your Dynatrac front axle. This information will allow us to do the necessary research to determine if you are affected.

What should you do?
Inspect your knuckles immediately using the attached PDF as a guide
. If you see any damage or suspect your knuckles have a crack, then you are affected and you should contact us immediately so we can prioritize your service. Contact us immediately to arrange for replacement parts. If at all possible, avoid driving your vehicle until the new parts are installed. Contact Dynatrac at 714-596-4461, or email your contact information to Dynatrac at customerservice@dynatrac.com and we will reply to you as soon as possible.

What if I no longer own the vehicle equipped with a suspected kit?
Contact Dynatrac at 714-596-4461, or email Dynatrac at customerservice@dynatrac.com. Please provide us any information that would help us contact the present vehicle owner. We will contact them directly once you provide us the information, and keep you information private. Please help us to protect other users by providing contact information of anyone you sold your vehicle to.

Mine might have been recalled. I sent the info that I had on hand to DynaTrac, however will not be sure until I can check the knuckles. The knuckles are currently out of state.......

Thanks for getting this info out so fast! I am glad I haven’t driven the Jeep since the last trip! Also good that I inspect everything before and after each trip!

This just came across to me today. I'm glad I posted it up too. Hope you can get it addressed and sooner than later. I almost wonder if you can go back to the iron knuckles.

LOL - I just love how YOU always have to be that guy. Like, you have something to prove when there really is no need for it. Or maybe, you just think you're so cool when you do it. It's too bad because, you seem like a nice guy but when you do this, all I can think about is how much of a douche bag you look like when you do things like this. I mean, as IF what you just posted is anything close to being the same thing as a Pro 60 knuckle. But really, whatever.

To this day, I have yet to see a SINGLE Pro 60 knuckle fail - NOT ONE. I just took this shot of Moby's and it's been on on for well over 10 years.

Next time, maybe try making an apples to apples comparison. I might have a bit more respect for you then. :)
