WAYALIFER's,
I would like to explore some new places in California, any suggestion on books, maps, or favorite places you like and would be worth to see location and direction.
Saw some of the places you have been and I would love to see them with friends and family. Thank's for the input!! :idontknow: :standing wave:

You should consider the Mojave Road. It's a nice family trip, with campgrounds along the way, and the possibility to camp outside the campgrounds too.
You can download maps online, or buy them at the visitor center in Barstow.
I try to take this trip once a year. Best time is late February or early March, when the desert is blooming.

There is a book specific to this trip available as well. Its called the Mojave Road Guide. You can buy it online.

It's an EASY trail. But after (or during) rain, it can be a little tricky a few places as the trail crosses many washes, and you need to cross Soda Dry Lake as well. If the Lake is too wet, there is a way around. Just call the visitor center ahead of the trip to check trail conditions.
I normally spend 2-3 days, going from East to West. I think the trail is about 140 miles, from Laughlin to Afton Canyon.

If you google it, there are several websites describing this trail.

Other places I often visit is Anza Borrego and Sequoia. A lot of good spots there too.
In Anza Borrego there is a place called Coyote Canyon. Worth checking out, and a nice place to bring friends and family.

How crazy that this was posted up about where to explore California. I read today that Huell Howser passed away on Saturday at the age of 67.
That guys tv show took trips all over California and will be a big loss.
RiP Huell Howser
He will always be remembered for showing us
The California Gold.

There are a ton of day trips you can do out in the Mojave and Anza Borrego. I would recommend that you pick up a book called Backcountry Adventures by Peter Masey and Jeanie Wilson. There are a lot of easy scenic trails to choose from in it. If you're looking for more adventure, I would recommend that you buy the California Backroads book by Charles Wells. These are good starting points.

gtony12, if you give us an idea of where you might want to go it will help us point you in the right direction. Here in the Ridgecrest area there is open desert all around and some good hotels to stay in, and a few to stay AWAY from. LOL Then you have Death Valley to the east and so on. If there is no snow you can go up into the mountains as well up to Kennedy Meadows but once they get snow they close the mountain.

Lots to see and do!
