The book "Southern" Guide To California Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails, is totally a great book that I highly recommend.

the second photo, it's of the Trail Locator Map
and it gives you an idea of where some trails are.
If you look to area 7 which is Anza Borrego / Ocotillo Wells.the book has 8 trails in that area alone. and uses the trip function in the vehicle
to give you a turn by turn type of guide.
You can look up more info on www.Funtreks.com

As for camping if you have an adventure pass you can practically camp anywhere.
I will be going up there again this summer if you want to make a little two day trip with me.

I will be keeping an eye on this thread as I plan to do a lot more exploring this summer. The books Eddie posted are good starts, I have one of them. And also the runs here that are coming up and past runs on Project-JK and here should help as well.

gtony12, if you give us an idea of where you might want to go it will help us point you in the right direction. Here in the Ridgecrest area there is open desert all around and some good hotels to stay in, and a few to stay AWAY from. LOL Then you have Death Valley to the east and so on. If there is no snow you can go up into the mountains as well up to Kennedy Meadows but once they get snow they close the mountain.

Lots to see and do!

I am looking for 1 or 2 day trips, really all the areas you said would work. May be you have a few good ones that you can recommend. But not hard core wheel I am still getten the wife up to speed on wheeling.

Sounds good, I have been by that trail but never went out on it. Also, is there a gate you go thru?

If you want there is a run palnned for February 15-17 by a guy on another forum that stages in Goler Gultch which is off of Garlock Road between hwy 14 and hwy 395.
I will PM you the link, don't want to upset the MODs with that info. It will be a good run with a few obstacles but hey, if my basically stock YJ can make it so can you.
If dry camping is your thing you could stay at the campground in Ballaratt and explore Death Valley and the Panamint Valley, lots of options!

Here is the link: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f317/red-rock-area-ca-2013-a-1423354/

LOL!! On most forums it isn't cool and truth be told, I too would prefer that people keep topics and events isolated to this forum as well. But, if you're gonna tell people you're gonna PM a link because you "don't want to upset the MODs with that info", you might as well just post it up for everyone to see. Certainly, everyone is gonna wonder and ask what you're referring to anyway and to suggest that the mods will be "upset" is kind of a slap in the face - like you know you shouldn't do it but are gonna do it anyway. The way I see it, I would rather you just post up the link. Unless the forum in question is openly hostile toward this forum, it's mods and/or me, nobody here is gonna care. :)

As WOL said, most topics/posts should be specific to this forum. It's more out of courtesy and respect to those operating the forum (or any forum). Events and the like can sometimes be organized by the forum itself and maybe even be sponsored, so just be considerate to all parties.

That said, I think it is also fair to say that many forum "members" are members of other forums, groups, and clubs as well. You may even recognize user names, etc from other places.

I'm just a member here at WAL, but people are real cool. Just be considerate of the operators/organizers, whether it be of this forum or the other forum. You know of an event for another group and have a buddy you know here, just shoot a discrete PM.....without literally saying "I'm gonna shoot you a PM so the mods don't get mad." :cheesy: Kind of not so discrete. ;)

We don't hate here though so it's all good. Wayalife is an awesome way of life. :yup:

I agree wholeheartedly. Most everyone knows of the other sites anyway, and I'm guessing many are members of more than one. :thumb:
