Windshield Decal

Hey everyone, didn't think this warranted the tech forums so I figured I would ask here. Never put a decal on in my life, but hell if I won't support this community. So, am I supposed to just slap the whole strip on the windshield and peel away the backside or do I cut and place each letter individually? Thanks in advance.

I would not cut it out individually. Clean your windshield before and use a credit card to get out air bubbles

^This. And pre measure down from the top of the windshield in a few places and lay a strip of painters tape across to use as a bottom guide. Eazy peezy

Clean the windshield first. Then use a mild soap mixed with water and use a spray bottle and do a light spray on the area you want to apply the sticker to. The water/soap mixture will allow you to move the sticker around and get it into place. Then use something like a credit card to squeeze the air and the soapy water out from underneath the sticker.

You don't want to completely soak the area, just get it wet enough to manipulate the sticker around.

There is no need to do the soapy water trick with the windshield banner. Just clean the window with some windex and apply. As you put the banner on follow behind with a credit card to make sure no air gets stuck behind it. Once it's on don't remove the paper and go over everything again.

I mostly do the soapy water trick in case I screw up. That way I can usually fix it, hopefully anyways, before it sticks.

Every time I don't do the soapy water trick I screw up the sticker I am installing. I like being able to move it around and re-position it.

If there is a body line or reference like top of windshield, I just clean it good with alcohol and measure. But if no reference is present, I do the soapy water.

It would suck trying to get everything lined up and straight if you cut each letter out. DON'T DO THAT!!! Painters tape is a good idea. I just eye balled mine.

What these folks said. Only thing I might advise is once you have it lined up, and secured the top edge with tape, but before removing the backing, cut the banner into 2-3 sections. IE every few letters. Then flip up that section, remove backing, flip down starting at a corner and use the credit card/gift card to smooth. Because you started by taping the top edge, everything will stay aligned, but be easier to affix.

Hope that makes sense. [emoji106]

Wow! A lot of good technique above. Here's what I did: drive to the trailhead of the Rubicon hungover, wipe the windshield off with a dirty rag, peel the entire backing off 10+ feet from the jeep, unfold it after you let go and it folds up on itself...twice, line it up it and stick it on in 30 degree weather hoping for the best. Good luck!

But did you use soapy water?....

There is only one MTG. You know none of us could do that!! Besides, I'm only 4'7", I can't even reach my windshield without a ladder.

^^^This^^^ The slight curve in the windshield makes it hard to flip up and down in one piece. I also measured and used a Sharpie to mark the windshield. It cleans off easy with rubbing alcohol.

Sounds like me anytime I try to use duct tape..haha

Yeah I had to climb up on my rock rails. Then climb down run around to the front to check. Climb up the other side then back down. I'm OCD at times too so what should have been a 2 minute job took nearly 45...haha. Measure 10 times almost cut then measure 50 more times just to be sure then start cutting and doubt it until its finished and even then you're not completely happy with it and tell your self how you could have done it better.

^^^ Ha ha. Totally with you. And then being one of the first to run a red windshield banner. I was like, what did I just do. And if it's not straight, do I even post it. Maybe I should have gone silver. Etc. Etc. [emoji33][emoji23][emoji23]

Yep. Then you have a beer and you don't care anymore..haha

Was almost a complete success. The F has bubbles in it I couldn't scrape out for the life of me. Otherwise went on like a charm. Thanks everyone.
