Their jaws change once their in the river system and the males get those big hooked jaws.

For sure, once I get the lodge rebuilt it would be a blast. The dunes are less than an hour away too.

The first two seem very happy you're holding them

Seriously nice fish. Didn't realize they got that big there! The Steelhead in Erie don't get that big. 8 pounds is a nice catch.

Seriously nice fish. Didn't realize they got that big there! The Steelhead in Erie don't get that big. 8 pounds is a nice catch.

Yeah, the steel head are smaller but fight with more effort. These best put up a fight for a minute, then they use their mass to try to drag you down river. It’s an absolute blast, hence the big smile [emoji16]

All catch and release. We keep them out of Lake Michigan, but once the come into the rivers to breed, their body’s gave already started to die and is not nearly as good to eat. In about a month, the river is littered with dead salmon. We also petitioned the state to turn about 10 miles of the river where the lodge is located and into a no kill section of the river for any one floating thru. Every year we have a stronger return of salmon and have seen the numbers of 20+ trout caught go way up because of that.

I’m sure they scavenge them. But I’ve never seen or heard of them actually catching them in the river.
