Well Eddie you were right

I didn't post to start a war about Warn just sharing my experience and point out all companies have issues. Some a lot more than other.

All companies have products that fail. I had a brand new WARN M8000 fail the first time I tried to recover someone on the trail. It worked fine until you put a load on it.

I ended up selling it for parts and bought a SuperWinch. Hasn't failed me yet when recovering vehicles on the trails.

Just so you don't go thinking SuperWinch is as Super as they'd have you believe, my 9.5i SR with synthetic rope has had several issues. Originally it lost the ability to free spool. When I called them about the issue they were quick to tell me they had a batch go out without an o-ring in a strategic location and shipped me a new handle/o-ring assembly. The part was the handle that you pull up to engage/disengage the free spool. I replaced the part and still couldn't free spool it because it was so corroded that it just wouldn't budge. When I called back and spoke to the same guy, he said he had never seen that and I should leave it in free spool and try to winch on something and break it loose. Long story short, no-dice. Before I could address the problem again I recently (last week) went to help a friend pull out his stuck tractor but upon trying to spool the cable out with the remote, the relay would click and...nothing. After a few tries, checking connection etc. I finally got it to spool out, inconsistently. So now I have yet another issue with the not so SuperWinch. Although they have been nice and kind of helpful I'm really questioning my purchase. I'm just glad I discovered this new issue before being really stuck in the boonies and needing a reliable winch. As it stands now I can't reliably get the winch line out... which is a really big problem.

I hope you have better luck but just beware.

I have had this winch for 3 years. I bought it because it was supposed to be completely weather/water proof performance series and I was sad to find out they shipped out some without the vital o-ring.:grayno:

I can't tell you how many times I've said I wish I'd have bought a WARN. lol

I in no way think SuperWinch is better than Warn. Warn has been around for years and are considered the gold standard. That is the reason I bought the Warn on the first place. The poor customer service is what drove me to get a SuperWinch. Unfortunately I got a bad one which I am positive Is a rarity with Warn.

For the record I didn't post to bash Warn or steer anyone away from buying a Warn. I just posted my expirence to show all companies have issues. Some more than others.

I again if I offended anyone and now I know to not mention Warn in future posts.

I just wanted to relay my issues I've had with my NotSoSuperWinch. It has saved my ass a few times but sadly it has seen better days. :icon_crazy:

Eddie thank you for the welcome even though it was meant to be sarcastic.

I have to go now and head over to a club members house to get my EVO Rock Skins and LOD sliders installed.

Your story.. stick to it.

I was with DIDS when this all happened.

If memory serves me correctly we (DIDS, myself and several other friends) were unspoolong his winch to tighten the line for him since he'd never used it. The winch did not work.

Nothing against warn. Everyone makes mistakes. Since the dealer installed his winch, warn wouldn't help him.

Not trying to fight anyone's battles, and I've known DIDS for a while. I can assure you that he isn't trying to pick a fight. He's a good dude, just sharing his experience.

Here's an update. I unfortunately did not win the Warn winch from Northridge so I called the Dealer regarding my winch issues. After a little back in forth I found out my winch fell under warranty. My XRC 8 is discontinued so there giving me the new model free of charge along with replacement synthetic line. Hopefully it's better built then the previous model. This is there new Gen2 9500 model. My broken model was a xrc 8000.

I did call Warn but they wouldn't warranty it. When I ordered my Jeep I also had the dealer get the Warn and put it on. Warn wouldn't warranty it saying that I wasn't the original owner because the dealer ordered it. They were real dicks about it. They even gave the dealer a hassle about it.

In the end the dealer gave me the money for it and I went with a company that stands behind there products.

That's bullshit. No dealer is ever going to give you the money back and not get something in return. Sorry but dealers are in business to make money, not lose $1000.

Had to go back to find the original post. So you know, most companies won't warranty a product that the "owner" (you in this case) can't prove purchase of. You didn't buy the winch, the dealer did. I'm not sure why on earth you'd have a dealer order a winch for you, but live and learn I guess. Accessories are often NOT covered under original manufacturer warranty as they came from Jeep at that point. Transfer of ownership voids most warranties. So you're warranty complaint would be with Jeep or the specific dealer. The dealer may have a leg to stand on with Warn, but you don't.

I'm sure the dealer shared every detail of the conversation. If the dealer didn't save the receipt, then they are SOL too. They'd also be trying to cover something that they transferred ownership of (to you in this case). Again, live and learn. Next time buy direct and make sure any warranty questions are asked and answers provided in writing before final delivery is accepted.

Be careful with warn too. I found a cheap one on Amazon and Eddie told me that that was the only model that I should stay away from. He said it was made in China. Just something for you to keep in mind.

Which model is that? Just so I know.

I purchased extended gap coverage that covered all accessories and upgrades. Although I've removed 70% of them lol

Just so you and others know in the future, GAP is equal to $$$ for auto finance companies. It's highly used in the non/sub-prime auto finance industry. Staying away from GAP is like staying away from PMI in the home finance world.

Warn's assembly line is open on Mondays. Shit happens. Lay off the new guy. Maybe the dealer fucked him & put a used one on hence no warranty. My wife wanted a ceiling mount DVD player in the back seat of her new Nissan. Dealer took it out of a trade.
