Well Eddie you were right

As many bad things as I've heard about smittybuilt products, it doesn't mean all cheaper products are bad. In my opinion, the best thing you can do before buying a product is to read reviews from actual customers that have and use them. As many times as I've received crap for having a harbor freight winch, I've only ever had one problem with it and it was my own doing(left it submerged for over an hour and never cleaned it out) and that caused the brushes in the motor to get hung up. Now I won't go saying I trust everything from harbor freight. But it really does pay to have first hand experience of whatever you choose to buy.

Out of the 10-15 things I've bought from harbor freight, I haven't had one tool I'd call reliable. Most have been like diapers - use once and throw away. I wish you the best but think you're playing russian roulette with 4 chambers loaded on that gun.

Sorry to hear what happened to you. It sounds like everything that could have gone wrong with the winches, went wrong.

As far as your question if Warn is the forum's top vote, it does look like that's what the majority of people on here have, and I haven't heard of them letting anyone down in a pinch like your winch did. Even if you don't win the giveaway, don't forget they have a rebate offer until the end of the month. I plan on using that to pick up a Zeon Platinum.

Thanks man

Be careful with warn too. I found a cheap one on Amazon and Eddie told me that that was the only model that I should stay away from. He said it was made in China. Just something for you to keep in mind.

Synthetic or wire rope?

And I'll be looking to get a Warn winch, and stay away from the VR series. I have to thank the forum for that.

All companies have products that fail. I had a brand new WARN M8000 fail the first time I tried to recover someone on the trail. It worked fine until you put a load on it.

I ended up selling it for parts and bought a SuperWinch. Hasn't failed me yet when recovering vehicles on the trails.

If you had a brand new one fail that was truly brand new then why not got it fixed or replaced under warranty?

First I've ever heard of that. Funny you say you "sold it for parts" instead of calling warn about it. Had it been me and my first time using it, I would have called in on the warranty but hey, that's just me. Doesn't change the fact that I see and hear countless stories just like the OP's.

BTW, welcome to WAYALIFE :rolleyes2:

You should stop drinking the creek water....

I did call Warn but they wouldn't warranty it. When I ordered my Jeep I also had the dealer get the Warn and put it on. Warn wouldn't warranty it saying that I wasn't the original owner because the dealer ordered it. They were real dicks about it. They even gave the dealer a hassle about it.

In the end the dealer gave me the money for it and I went with a company that stands behind there products.

Actually I have been a lurker here. Just pointing out all companies have issues. Some more than others. You Warn fanboys are funny how you believe Warn never puts out a bad product. I know Warn is considered the Gold standard for winches but that doesn't change the fact that I got a bad one. I am sure that is extremely rare but it happened.

Warn fanboys? Lol, ok guy. I don't believe your story. If that matters.
