Tumbler Begins: '17 JKUR HR

Got the exhaust installed this evening. Love the sound, without being overly aggressive. Hardest part was getting the intermediate pipe and muffler apart while laying on the ground in the driveway. Had to take a butane torch to the joint at the y-pipe. After that it was all downhill.

Glad you got it installed Chris!

I've been putting off my PBS and PKE. I've been too lazy to disassemble things to get the switch out and send it off to get modded for the module. But I expect to soon. I'm hoping to have the system in and working by the middle to end of October.

I’ve been spending more time making the Jeep a little more liveable as a daily driver. I just flipped 20,300 miles and have had it almost exactly a year +/- a day or two. While not a ton of miles, it’s a good bit above average. Although I’ve been incredibly happy with the Mastercraft MXT tires (for anyone that isn’t aware, Mastercraft is a Cooper brand thats a little easier on the wallet) with 20k+ miles on them now they are beginning to get pretty loud. Especially on the concrete expressway I spend 40-60 miles on daily. These tires have begun to absolutely roar on that particular expressway. So I’ve decided to pull off the off-road rims/tires and set them aside for off road trips which I expect to be anywhere from 4-8 times/year, maybe more. That will eliminate the daily wear and tear on the MXTs and even more importantly to me, the road noise. Being that I’ve been really happy with the Mastercraft brand otherwise, I’ve decided to swap them for the Mastercraft CXTs a hybrid all-terrain that are really quiet. I recommended them to a friend who leveled a Sahara and I’ve confirmed after a test drive, that those tires are very quiet. But they look really good too as they still have a moderately aggressive sidewall. I will hopefully have them on this weekend. I like the Fuel rim I was running so I just stuck with them. The CXTs will be 35” so the Jeep will maintain a very similar stance with very minimal, if any, calibration tweaks.

Also I’ve upgrade my speaker system and did away with the “premium” system entirely. I decided to just go ahead with the Alpine aftermarket system (PSS21WRA) that comes with a new amp and sub that are both placed under the passenger seat with really nice prefabbed brackets that are included. What a world of difference, the factory Alpine system was okay, but this is on another level. Most noticeably in bass quality, volume levels, and overall clarity. I’m sure I could’ve done a little better for the money but this system as it comes has all* the wiring harnesses preassembled and ready out of the box, so the system does eliminate a lot of grunt work normally required for an all new component system.

* The system is designed to be plug and play with the base radio system (w/o an outboard amp). And should be avoided if you have the OEM Alpine Premium Audio system, unless you want to get your hands a little dirty hacking up your factory harness or making a new harness to bypass the outboard Alpine amp. To bypass the factory amp AND avoid cutting and splicing into the existing harness, I sourced all new MOPAR connectors (9 in total) and built a new speaker harness that is 17.5’ long going thru the dash and up and along the roll bar to the soundbar. I wish I took pictures but for some reason never occurred to me.

While working on the radio/speakers, I also spliced in the Auto Climate Controls mentioned several pages back in the thread. With a bit of online instruction and a couple new sensors it works flawlessly. It is not a simple swap of the controller but not a terribly difficult job either. You need to add a cabin temp sensor to the right and under the steering wheel that isn’t present unless you already have Auto Climate Controls and swap the sun sensor with a new/different one on the top/middle of the dash. Add a few wires and some soldering and its good to go. All connectors sourced online. While I had the HVAC Controls out I removed the push button start button so I can FINALLY send it out for modification before having the PBS/PKE system installed sometime very soon. I’ve finished pretty much every other electronic upgrade that I’ve wanted so I can now take that off the back-burner.

I’ve just about got the Jeep how I would like it to be for a combined daily driver/decently capable off-road Jeep. I’m not sure I’d do much else. My wife loves it as is and said she’d love to drive it full-time if/when we get a JL in 2019.

Those look like nice tires. I've been using Cooper/Mastercraft tires for years now and have always been really happy with how they've performed. I've had them on everything from cars, trucks, SUV's and absolutely love the STT Pros I have on the Jeep. Good choice!

BUMP! It’s been a good long while since I’ve posted here. Man, while I’ve been lurking in the background, I miss being a participant here. The last year as been up and down stay the least. I’m now divorced and living on my own and have my kids every other week. I have spent months getting settled in to the new place while dealing with a bout of depression due to all the life changes. Things are going much better now. The Tumbler is gone. I traded it on a ‘19 Moab. I returned the ‘17 back to stock while swapping tires with the new Jeep. I scavenged all the best parts off the ‘17 and will be installing them on the ‘13 2dr Sport I got the kids.

A good friend of mine in the business allowed me to tie up two of his lifts last weekend to work on the ‘19, ‘17, and ‘13 simultaneously. I was a bit rusty but was able to put the ‘17 suspension back to stock in 6-7 hours. What a difference a lift makes!

That’s all the work from day one with the MOAB rims and tires installed.

I got the MOAB because at this pricepoint, I’m just not beating the shit out of this JL, Rubicon or otherwise. So with the Sahara being the base vehicle with a bunch of Rubicon parts on the exterior, this was the best fit for me at this point in my life. I love this Jeep especially the interior. Well concentrate on making the ‘13 more of our off-road Jeep and I hope to have years of fun in it with my kids.

The JL clears the 35s nicely but I’ll add something yet to be determined so the tires will clear the flares when fully flexed.

Here’s day two of removing and swapping parts. I’ll probably wait until spring to put the winch on the 13. I also sprayed the front and rear hooks to keep some of the “Hard Rock” appearance the ‘17 originally had even though the bumpers are different.

Glad to see you back! Too bad on all of the unfortunate things but happy it's getting worked out.

Man, I looked hard at the Moab too but in the end the locker's, t-case & axles on the Rubicon got me. I started with a Sport last time & wanted to start with factory stuff this time around. The Moab is really a nice start as well.

Welcome back. Congrats.

sorry to hear about the divorce. sounds like things are getting better. nice looking Moab.

Thanks Fellas!!

Thanks man! Yeah I hear ya! I’ll be looking for rubi take-offs for the ‘13 Sport. Esp a transfer case.

i have to say. the most shocking thing about your posts. Delaware license plates. didn't know anyone actually lived in Delaware. :cheesy:

Sorry about the divorce but glad your back! I think I saw your jeep recently (September/October time frame) down in southern Delaware when I was at my parents place and meant to message you but forgot your username on here
