Teraflex?

As I stated on another axle thread a little bit back... would you go to a company primarily known for suspensions to buy an axle or would you want to go to an axle company to buy an axle?

I absolutely agree with that point.
 
Thank you to any and all who have posted opinions on brands and equipment as I am still learning. :rock:

1.) I have PTSD and I'm a disabled vet so I wont be able to do the work on it myself. (Combat vet to boot) So please let all the Vet stuff go, its not helping me make decisions about equipment. (Be the better man/soldier and let it go) :thumb:

2.) As a disabled Vet I live on a fixed income so I have to ask the questions to understand if cheaper/more expensive equates to poor quality/ high quality. :idontknow:

3.) I wont be doing any rock crawling and have a hard time getting in and out of my stock jeep so I will more than likely get only a 2.5" lift and I will have to have someone install it or help me. :doh:

4.) Most of my wheeling will be to get me away from "glampers" so I can get out and be alone in the wilderness. Also more important things to me are recovery/self recovery. :yup:

5.) I am willing to save for quality equipment but I am trying to understand what quality is here and what is overkill for my needs. (I guess I could have said that from the beginning) :doh:

I think the TF 2.5 BB will work great for you. I know for a fact it will do more then you need it to do. I ran My 2010 Rubicon JKU all over Moab easy and hard trails with the only mods being the TF 2.5 BB with shock extension, and a mid with front bumper.

People are selling cheap Rubicon take parts all the time, so for someone one a fixed income it would say that would be the best way to go. If your still in need of shocks in February let me know. It will be getting a new Rubicon then, and I will putting now shocks on, and will a set of Rubicon shocks if you need them just PM me.
 
So much to learn but I will take it all with a grain of salt and thats why I ask opinions. I have learned in my life there is more than one way to get to an end goal. So I have some learning to do and I need to get out on the trails with a local club soon. First I have a trip to UT with the wife. Then I will get out on some minor trails and learn about what I have to get a better idea of what I need.
I can say from my military experience recovery is primary and thats my first work. Like bumper with winch, CB (commo), and I already have tow straps and the like but only stock attach points. I would like a much more sturdy attachment point like shackles. (military recovery habits)

You wont see inches of lift, but the shocks on a Rubi are better than a regular Unlimited or Sahara. The Rubi has some quality monotube shocks.

Most guys get rid of them not cause they stink, but because they are not tall enough to fit the big lifts they want to run.

D rings are never a bad idea. But the tow points on the JKU right now stock are solid enough to get you out of any jam until you can upgrade so dont worry :)

Just to be clear, ORE - Off Road Evolution is not an exclusive dealer of EVO MFG products. If you want to run a TF kit or a RK kit and want us to put the build together for you, we can do that for you. They are two different companies. That is all I had to add to this entertaining conversation.
 
Hey Raven let me know when you are planning on coming to Moab and we will try to meet you there. I always like an excuse to come down. My current rigs got a teraflex lift with Bilstein shocks so you can see if you like the ride,height, and the flex. So far I have yet to break any of the TF components and its not like I am not trying. I have had 2 jeeps with TF lifts and one with an RK lift and they have all worked great.

Also if you decide you just want to go with the Rubi suspension I have a complete set in the shop that I could give you if we meet up.
 
I am about to make a trip to Utah but not to wheel. I am going to a concert next week. First trip out in the Jeep, the wife and I are going to see 30 seconds to Mars. I do want to get up to Moab though. I also want to go on a Jeep trip with experienced wheelers so I can learn more. I drove a M3A3 in the military as well as Humvees and learned quite a bit about off road maneuvers but I need to learn this vehicle. Thanks for the offer If I can I will hit you up for it.

I may begin looking for a set of Rubi wheels for my tires if I can get them cheap. The shocks sound like a good idea as well. I want to run 33's.

Also a new question... What is a good air compressor to get to air back up on the trail?
 
Are you coming to their concert in Magna? If you are it would be easy for us to meet up around Salt Lake if you have time.

Yes we are but I do not know the area. We will be staying in a motel about 20 miles away I cant remember where (poor memory) but the wife knows.
 
If your looking to run 33's a levelling kit would suit your needs and save you a bit more cash, add the rubi take offs and you would be set till you decide you wanted more lift or flex. I'd look at the falken line of tires or toyo at's, it sounds like you don't need anything to aggressive but still better then what it came with stock. There are a ton of decent bumpers for a decent price so that will depend on what you like and the look your going for . You might find some benefit to some sliders there are lots out there ranging in price, these will help you as you can use them as a step for getting in and out of the jeep, as well as add some protection.
 
If you are looking for rubi rims, watch for a set of rubi takeoffs (rims and tires- 32's) you might be able to find them cheap enough to offset the difference from 33's. What year rubi rims are you looking for? I have a set I will be selling at some point soon with 80% tread 32's, from an 07 rubi

The Teraflex sliders were one of the items I was looking at a bit closer and I have no idea about if they are good or not (aluminum does fatigue). After this rather passionate thread I think I may go the way of Rubi parts but only if new. The tires I have been thinking about are the Nitto Trail Grapplers. Still trying to find the bumper I want. I want something kind of like a formed or shaped brushguard with a mid width and a solid winch mount. Cost will keep me getting things either used or little at a time. I will keep looking and learning.
 
I'll be the first to say that I will never buy any major/critical Teraflex products again. I've had too many hard, critical parts fail, that had they failed on the highway at 70mph, I'd probably be DRT(dead right there). Prob the only thing I'd trust to not fail at this point is a freakin' sticker, or coil spring spacer with as many failures as I've had. With all that hardcore bashing that the anti WayoflifeEddiehatesallthingsnonEvoEddieisthedevilandmyonlywayoflifeistocryontheinternetanddeletemyaccountcrowd(see what I did there), I should say teraflex was quick to replace my parts the multiple times that they failed. I will agree with Greg though. Their front bumpers looked pretty good, and it's hard to screw up a bumper or budget boost to the point it will fatally fail, so I guess I would get a bumper, just not a tire carrier. I like my spare on the tailgate/bumpe, not in the passenger seat of the car behind me. Their budget boosts are pretty good. I ran their leveling kit as my first lift. If I'm out of line Eddie, just PM me and I'll chill. The steroids I'm on for my sciatica must have me raging like mikegronholz.
