I only do 4 tire rotations these days and only front to back and back to front.

This has been working great for me! So much faster and easier too.

This is what I did for my Trail Grapplers and found it was best to keep them quiet. 62k miles on the current set and super even and still pretty quiet. Need replacing soon though.
