SOCIAL MEDIA - Am I the Only One?

I’ve never had a FB, or TikTok accounts and recently shuttered my X, and IG accounts. I will use my wife’s FB for market place, and I use YouTube to learn how to do things and research interests. Finding Wayalife as we were getting back into Jeeps was a great discovery! Much preferred for me over the social media platforms. Kudos Eddie for the community you and Cindy have created here sharing your passions!

Gotta admit I/m an IG consumer, but ever since someone somehow got access to my account & locked me out a couple years ago, it's been liberating. I have an account for my pup ( 😂 ) I used to post pics of her because the breeder I got her from wanted to keep contact with the family tree, but now all I do is look at retards wrecking and pranking each other with obnoxious shit on that account. My kids and I continually forward shit to each other. Peek at FB a couple times a month only because I look at stupid shit I don't need on Marketplace. Have no other accounts than those 2. These are all time pirates. Shame that kids basically live their lives there

Edit: And yes, the bonus titties aren't horrible

Facebook for local Jeeping, local author & writer’s community and to keep my eyes out for a Border Collie to adopt. Too often I get sucked down the rabbit hole scrolling through Reels or YouTube.

I’ve recently decided that I’m better off just looking for another Border Collie to adopt. I miss the joy, energy and yes- the chaos Minerva brought to our lives. That little black & white wrecking ball of fur was a lot smarter than most people on social media. Even that activity has its downside. Most Facebook pages dedicated to adopting and rehoming BCs are a scam run by the same dirtbags.

I used IG for the business but found myself getting caught up in the nonsense. I did actually meet a couple people I talked to on there, and like here, they are regular normal people. One guy picks up trash in the mojave desert for fun and posts about it, the other is an offroader and fireman. As I said I was finding myself wasting time looking at it and have since turned it over to my wife to manage. Its way better without it. As mentioned this platform is an online community and though I haven't met many in person it still feels like we're all old friends.

I got off social media about ten years ago and never looked back. It's poison. The funny thing is, most people agree it's not good. Then they justify it by saying "I use it to keep in touch with friends and family". Ummmm how did people stay in touch with friends and family since the dawn of time?

Late to this but as probably the youngest dude active on this forum, I have to admit I was all into it for a while. I posted up all my off-road trips, music, work-related things and whatever else but over the last year I pretty much came to a dead stop. I've got a lot of friends who follow me but I came to the realization I see and or talk to them directly anyway, defeating the purpose of showing it there.

I've never been a news watcher either so all my news comes from my friends messaging me things or here on Wayalife - no joke. Namely the Random Internet and Someone Just Tried threads.

I still have Instagram and will open it from time to time to check on more distant friends and whatnot, get distracted by a few reels, (usually pretty funny) and Facebook as well but strictly for Marketplace. (Actual unhealthy addiction)
