Guess who’s guitar this is...hint; he’a got a really cool name...took a chisel and hammer to it to fit a humbucker where the original Strat single coil used to live...

One of the most recognized guitars in the world! Went to several VH concerts and the audience was so loud Eddie kept saying just 5 more minutes because he couldn’t hear himself play. Awesome solos!

Jerry Garcia commissioned Doug Irwin in 1973 to build the the most extravagant guitar possible...two thousand hours and six years later, Tiger was completed, and was his main axe until he died. I had the pleasure to be on a dive boat in Hawaii with Captain Trips many, many years ago...he requested that my lips be sealed as to what transpired on that private charter...to which I have continued to oblige...

This guitar belonged to one of my favorite guitarists of all time (next to Jimi)...Stevie Ray Vaughn. This Strat had a 1963 body, a 1962 neck, and 1959 pickups...and a vibrato from a left handed guitar. RIP brother...

One of the cool-er guitar designs of all time (of course I’m biased, it’s my stepdad’s design) was the Electric Sitar marketed under the Coral brand by Danelectro. Normally, the angle of attack of the bridge where the strings end on the body is sharp to prevent a buzzing sound...this bridge has a large radius that produces a very pronounced buzzing sound. Also incorporated into the body to accentuate the sitar sound are thirteen drone strings with its own single coil pickup and separate tone and volume controls. This 1967 Coral Sitar belongs to Steve Miller, who recorded Wild Mountain Honey on it.

I have the same 1967 Coral Sitar hanging on my wall at home...

Another fine example of a Gibson Flying V...this on a 1959 owned by Neil Young, which he played on stage during the Harvest tour in 1972-73

Here are two interesting guitars...a white 1961 Gibson Les Paul Custom on the left, and a 1965 Rickenbacker 360/12 “Old Style” 12 string.

In 1961, Gibson redesigned the Les Paul with a lighter body, flat top, and a double pointed cutaway; after Les Paul rejected the design (and didnÂ’t want his name on it), it was rebranded as the SG (Solid Body) Custom. The guitarists that first come to my mind when I think of the SG are Duane Allman, Angus Young and Pat Travers.

Rickenbacker only built 44 Old Style 360/12’s between 1963-1968...in 1964, the Beatles used this guitar extensively. 12 string guitars have six pairs of strings, with the lower 4 doubled an octave up, and the upper two doubled in unison...producing that unique full sound.

I'm not a guitar aficionado but this thread makes me want to be one. Love the history behind these - thanks for posting!

Not to mention Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath on the SG.

Speaking of Bigsby...who was best known for his vibrato tailpiece (to this day), was an innovative guitar builder in his own right. This was his second electric guitar he built in 1948 in California in collaboration with Merle Travis...notice the scrolled headstock and six inline tuners...which influenced another Californian...Leo Fender

Here’s a piece of history...literally. This was once a 1967 Fender Stratocaster that Jimi Hendrix lit on fire, then destroyed on stage at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. Jimi was the closing act of the festival...and had to follow The Who, in which Pete Townshend & Keith Moon destroyed their instruments at the end of their set. Hendrix definitely was not to be outdone...
