It’s not really a new phenomenon. As population density increases in a given area, so does dependency on government regulation and government assistance. The overwhelming majority of mayors in the 100 largest cities in the U.S. are blue…even in many very red states (Idaho included). A state’s governor and legislature can do a lot to control the impact of those mayors though (if they are so inclined to do so).
