Project Blue Jeep

Well, we have threads here for superchargers, turbochargers, and engine swaps. I think this may be a first. Easier than re-gearing.

Hahaha. It’ll get 4.56 soon enough.

I pulled a Brute (a making a performance post and then not following through :p )It’s not actually getting nitrous, a friend had an old bottle laying around and asked if I wanted it. I won’t lie. I thought about running a small line out the window into the intake tube while I was driving home 🤣 just reach over and twist the knob a bit hahahaha

It’s not as “empty” as I was led to believe

Those bottles are cool, how many psi is nitrous?

Bit under 800. Bottles marked 2006 build date, needs testing and certs every 5 years. Was also thinking it would be a cool on board air tank little big for that though 10lb bottle, ignore my trash bags of gravel doing some winter prep. IMG_0447.jpg

Exactly what I was thinking, on board air

Pretty sure I’d have to change a few things on it to run co2. Also considering just using it as an air tank hooked to a 12v compressor or possibly belt run compressor. Also possibility of it being used as a lamp. Haha. Who knows.

What lead to this?
NOS!

Not really. There comes a time in every 4.0l that you can no longer pretend it’s lifter tick or dead lifter, it’s piston slap.

All of them were worn as hell too, luckily block looks pretty good. Bearings looked good- got new ones anyways.

Well, I guess it could have been worse
Nah not that bad of a job at all, I’m taking my time and working on it when I feel like it but it’s a weekend job at mo, easy engine to work on and super cheap to rebuild. I knew I’d be diving into it when I bought it, and the damage on this one really isn’t that bad.

This is from my last TJ

From the noise it was making though I did expect more, will be nice and quiet when I’m done though.
New pistons have a better side skirt design too

Prepped everything. Got the new pistons on the rods. Piston rings installed. Lapped all the valves, installed new seals, rebuilt the head. Honed the block and prepped gasket surfaces. Just have to reassemble.
Did you send the head out or do it yourself?
