Power Tools

Since I can tell you USE your tools, are the SnapOn and MAC really worth it compared to the Milwaukee?
So the MAC boxes are just drill bits. They are great cause they are lifetime warranty compared to the other brands. They break or get dull they replace them.

As far as the other stuff goes, the snap on air gun I used a lot more at the dealer. We had a lot more air pressure than this shop where it’s pretty much useless. With enough air pressure tho it’s awesome

The Milwaukee guns are super impressive for their size and I haven’t seen a nut or bolt they can’t break loose. They are cheaper and more powerful than the snap on equivalent another guy in the shop has. Even more powerful than the dewalt equivalent guns another tech swears by.

Running a pneumatic impact with enough air pressure to power a 150,000 sq ft shop is incredible. I used to use them to clamp the tops of steel beams flush for oil field skids.

With that much air, all brands performed similarly, but the harbor freight ones blew up sooner. lol. Literally fell apart in your hands.

Ok well my Dewalt 18v ni-cad batteries are finally on their last leg (second set). I bought the Dewalt kit probably close to 20 years ago. I mainly use the impact driver and drill these days. They both still work great. Question: do I buy the 18v to 20v adapter and charger and batteries (hate getting rid of perfectly good things) or do I look into replacing the tools? I really like the Milwaukee stuff just not sure what to go with m12 or m18, fuel or regular. It'd be nice to build up a good tool kit with cordless impacts and other things that I do have. I do mainly light to medium duty jobs around the house and vehicle maintenance. By no means will they be used hard daily. Any info is much appreciated.

If you decide to switch to Milwaukee get the fuel stuff. Also a mix of m12 and m18 stuff is what you want. The m12 stuff is smaller and more compact while still packing a punch. The m18 stuff just hits hard and can’t be matched.

I agree with cozdude.

What does the "18v to 20v adapter" look like/do? It sounds like something clunky, if it is installed as a shim while using the tool. Does it make the 20v tool run at 18v with a bit less power?

Much of the cost of the tools is the batteries and you will need enough of them to get the whole task done. Buying more kits which come with batteries gets you more batteries at a lower price.

If you get Milwaukee kits which include battery and charger (plus a case), the batteries are usually ok for the task. The m18 kits I bought came with chargers which can charge m18 and m12 simultaneously, but the m12 kit only came with a stripped-down charger for m12.

Overlander seems to be the Milwaukee expert here since it seems he bought most things they sell.

I have aset of power tools at work and have the 18 to 20 adapter. Now I don't use them that often as I found them and we decided to keep them but what I have used it works fine. The adapter itself can be a pain to get off the tool if you want to switch it to another, but the functionality of it seems to work just fine.
