More beadlock questions

Andrew (noroad) has matched his gecko paint near perfect with a rattle can. I know it was a two stage but I don't believe he used Mopar color. I think he found the Mopar clear is needed for body touch up matching though. You might want to PM him for more info :yup:

Thanks Abunch bub!!! I'll pm him

Great info, I appreciate it! Did you paint the rings with a rattle can or did you have someone do them professionally? They came out really well regardless...

I actual just picked up some used slabs and and debating if I should rattle can or get done professionally as wel lol in gecko

I did them myself. A couple of coats of primer and then the Mopar Flame Red color. I started using the tiny cans of Mopar paint available online, but then switched to Duplicolor color match paint. Plan on 2-3 cans for paint, 2 for primer and 1 for clear coat.

Do the natural aluminum wheels have a clearcoat or are they unfinished/plain machined? I really like the looks of them but man, one Winter in the rust belt and they'd look like fido's butt.

edit: ATX wheels specifically

My buddy has the aluminium/polished chamber pros and as far as I know there is no clear on them.

Yep, those are the exact ones I'm looking at. Love the look of those. Decisions decisions...

The rings on the slabs are bare al (inners are powdecoated al), As far as the al wheels on my cars in the winter I've had great luck with using plastidip glossifier (its plastidip clear coat) so things look the same, but you dont have to worry about the elements, then in the spring just peel it off.

One thing to think about painting the rings on the slabs, unless you want to paint the bolt heads too, touching them up with a can of rattle can paint probably isn't too easy (in my mind at least) if you want them to look nice. Either you'll have to mask off the inner wheel, bolts and tires, which doesn't sound exactly fun to me. Or pull the rings off, which I'd rather not do unnecessarily.

I've never understood the illegality of beadlocks. From what I read... which was a little while back, was... if it comes from the factory as a beadlock then it is fine for the street. Only time it is not, is if it's a diy, such as a weld on ring deal.

I think if it's s mechanical device holding on the bead it's not dot approved, I could be wrong though

Regarding the finish on ATX wheels, this taken from their website:

"After two rigorous years of both on & off road testing American Racing was the first and is currently the only wheel companies that can offer wheel that have been coated with Teflon®. During those tests they have found that coating wheels with the Teflon finish significantly enhances the wheel's resistance to brake dust, dirt, road film and UV degradation."

Anyone running these wheels in the rust belt: do these stay nice through a few winters? Does this Teflon coating wear off? My experience with clear coats is that they're good for a couple years and then the peeling starts...

Edit: Like the idea of the plastidip...

i have the chamber pro II, they are not coated, if i were to do it over i'd still get them but i would treat them with Eastwood's Sharkhide aluminum sealer before mounting them.

any rain will not drain out and they do look like fido's butt during the winter. after my trip to winter states they were horrible, cleaned them up a bit with magic erasure but i to remove them, polish them back up and treat them with Sharkhide.

they look fantastic when shiny!

Not sure I'll ever get them, but the soon to be new XD beadlocks have drainage ports. The rings are just as stout as the slabs/chambers. And the wheel design is awesome.

Unfortunately I didn't snap a pic, but EVO had the milled version at the expo booth and my son said "dad, you need those wheels!" He's going to tell mom that when they are released. Lol.

Are these the wheels? Taken from XD's website. Same company that makes the ATX wheels, Wheel pros.
Man, thems a lot of bolts!

Balancing Beadlocks

I've got ATX Slabs with 37" Nitto TG. They took a decent amount of weight to balance at Discount Tire. I've heard some people say they didn't need any weight, but I assume a variety of factors can affect this.

It takes me 10 minutes to check the torque settings on the ring bolts every oil change. Other than that, no maintenance on them.

I also drive 75mph on the freeway every day to work and have no issues or concerns with them.

Has anyone seen the balancing method with Airsoft BB's? This YouTube video references a company called IMI. They make a product called EQUAL that semi truckers put inside tires and it continuously balances the tires as they wear. It saves on mechanical wear and gas mileage too. These guys have saved the expense and just used Airsoft BB's instead of buying the EQUAL. The theory is sound and there are quite a few videos of people doing it. Anyone used this method before???

I agree - love these when they are all cleaned up & shiny! Funny, I noticed these wheels a while ago on your avatar & thought they looked sharp with the red. Our Jeeps could be brothers if I had those wheels. Never knew about the Sharkhide - thanks for the tip. Eastwood makes a lot on nice products.

I read somewhere over the last couple days that these BB's don't actually 'balance' the wheels so much as they mask the out of balance condition. I would think that these BB's would distribute themselves equally around the tire due to the centrifugal forces and wouldn't find any out of balance spots. IDK. From what everyone has indicated, I'd probably try to run the wheels without balancing and then get it done if needed.

That's a sharp wheel! I can see why your son said you need them! I'm gonna have to be on the lookout for those too.

I had planned on waiting for these to come out but got impatient when I saw a sweet deal on some slabs.

The red wheel is I believe a xd machete beadlock they are coming out with soon . Ring just as thick as a atx slab and bolts too with recesses for water build upImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1444347496.961203.jpg
