A few pictures from a fall colors run over Medano Pass into the Sand Dunes N.P. in Colorado. We turned around at crossing #2 where a Lincoln Navigator was stuck in the mud pit and was being rescued by the Park Ranger and a jeep in front of us.. We were going to go into the park, but after seeing the mud pit and a few attempts by the park ranger to head back up where we setup camp, we decided to not play in the mud.
Camped at the peak. On the 2nd day, the Cherokee decided to die from some electrical issue at the mud pit we turned around at the previous day. I towed it through the pit and then towed it about 8 miles into the park so it could be towed back to Colorado Springs. Using the backup camera to watch the slack in the tow strap helped some, but a snatch strap would have helped much more.. Quick double tap on the mute button kept it on.
Not sure what the issue was on the Cherokee. It would run, then just die. Battery was good, fuel pump good, starter good. After sitting for a bit it would start and run a few minutes. It would not start when we took a break during towing, but started when the tow arrived.
This is not a technical trail, but can be impassable leaving the park when wet.
