Jeep Wrangler JK - fromt 33" to 37"

Very nice Jeep. Even with the regulations you have limiting your build, it appears very capable. Great job so far, and I really like the custom work on the bumper end caps and bumpstops.

Hi,

just a little update: I got my new Gobi mount. The roof rack is now closer to the body. I think its better. I also weldet a knew brace to the Gobi, so i can mount the tent better.

... and two angel for the Foxwing.

I also got the EVO Fascia Bumper. But to make it street legal, there is some costumwork to do. But not know. I - or better us, have to do holiday preparations.

I ordered some OME Bp51 shocks after i tried these shocks in Bad Kissingen "Abendteuer Allrad" - the biggest 4x4 fair in Germany. The BP51 are so awsome. I hope i get the shocks quick. For the back I go with the 4-6" version to get more flex. I hope I have measured properly and they fit.

Hi,

thanks guys.

You dont see JKs often in Germany. Thahts right. There are some reasons:

- High fuel consumption; and fuel is expensive here. Diesel is around 1,10€ per liter - thahts around 4,90$ per gallon. Petrol is about 6,21$ per gallon
- most People here buy 4x4 like the JK oder Landrover Defender for towing. Since 2012 the JK towing rate is down to 2,000kg for the 4 Door and 1,000kg to 2 Door. This is very low. So normaly people choose a pickup or SUVs like the Grand Cherokee for this.
- the JK has a low payload. So it's not the best choice for overlanding.

Thats the reason why normaly People choose the Landrover Defender. But since they stop building the Defender you see the JK more often on German roads.

I like my JK. Would not give him up for anything in the world. Someday i ship my JK to the US and drive through the beautiful country by my own Jeep. :yup:

Update: Got my new Shocks

Old Men Emu Bp51 for the rear

Old Men Emu BP51 4-6" vs Fox 2.0 Remote Reservoir 1,5"-3,5 - jep, the OME Shocks are really short!

img_20170802_1427362oq8h.jpg

But they fit to the 2,5" AEV suspension because i have longer bumpstops to fit the 37" tires.

img_20170802_160017utrgk.jpg

The factory shock mount does not fit to the BP51 shocks. I need to change the mounting with a longer bolt and a spacer. But I thinks its okay for testing.

img_20170802_164243azpym.jpg

Now I just need longer swaybar links, so I can use the longer travel of the shocks.

Btw, the shocks are pretty impressiv. Makes the 2 Door comfortable as the 4 door. No bumpy ride.

Nice shocks, congrats. Looks tight with that lift height, good thing you have longer bumps, it's pretty much right there. Be careful to not over compress the shock.
I found that running correct pressure in your tires also makes the ride more comfortable. I run my 37" mud tires at 26pis cold.

Hi,

thank you. Yes, tire pressure is the most important way for a good ride. I ride 1,9 front and 2,0 in the back. That should be 27,5PSI front and 29,PSI back. The Diesel is a little heavier, so I thinks its okay.

I dont know how it called in english but i try it: The yellow thing that goes on the black plastic bumpstop is fully compressed on the second picture. So I think the shocks are save. The cant over compress.

Someone, that drive rallys in a 90 Defender told me that a tight fit is important to bypass shocks - so the last way of shock travel is used as an hydraulic bumpstop.

Great build so far. Question, although your foxwing broke during poor weather, have you been happy with it otherwise? Are you going to repair it or go with another brand? I'm debating getting this one or the ARB 2000. It's always windy here in the mountains.

Hi,

thank you.

I still happy with the Foxwing. I think its the best awning you can buy. You can converte you awning to a tent with some side panels, like i did last year:

imag10825qs80.jpg

Well, it was not windy - it was a storm and I was to late to fold the awning in. Well, check out the link. It was just a few miles away from our camping spot. I'm glad that our tent isn't broken and there was no tree near the Jeep.

BTW: The broken Foxwing parts costs about 15€. So, it's no big deal. For the next tripp I go with some spar parts.

Hi,

over the Weekend I worked on my XJ.

But first, I want to share this picture. I was wheeling with my buddy.

img_20170903_180844_1qcupu.jpg

Okay, let's start. I picked up my new Wheels. Some 31 for the XJ.

img_20170908_130555_1y9uob.jpg

img_20170908_150305_189u89.jpg

Okay, definitely these tires won't fit with the stock suspension. I think i will go with a 2" Old Men Emu lift.

I picked up some fake ARB lights.

img_20170909_121807jyuoi.jpg

I think that red isn't the way to go.

Much better in black I think.
