I-15 Bridge Fire

I hope no one is trying to drive North or South on the 15. It's closed at Hesperia due to a fire burning at the new bridge construction site. A traffic nightmare!

Oh man, that totally sucks. That's the new bridge they've been working on too. What a shame.

I heard this morning the 15 will be closed 48 hours "at the least". I guess they are tearing it down completely before the 15 is open again.

They were are already tearing it down before the fire was out. The insurance claims would be fun to follow on this one.

And who would drive under the bridge with it on fire? That's nuts!

Living here and hearing all the radio traffic it sounded like it was quite the issue to suppress. They are still working on it as we speak. I'd hate to be the guy that was holding the torch when it started...

Are you saying that he won't even feel bad about it?

No, I'm sure he feels like crap. But the general contractor is the one that will get hammered by a liquidated damages clause for failure to complete the project on time.

Clearly a force majeure. ;)

Lol. Yeah right. ;) The sad thing is that depending on the insurance exclusions and the tier of the contractor employing the torch guy, it is entirely possible that insurance will not cover all or a large portion of the damage. In any event, insurance won't cover liquidated damages (contractual breaches are never covered). Events like this can put even good contractors out of business.
