Couple Dies on Route to the Wave

Just read about a couple who were found dead on route to the Wave. Of course, when there's a lottery system that only allows 20 people to even attempt to do this hike a day with tens of thousands of people applying to do it, I suppose the only real surprise is that something like this hasn't happened sooner. What a tragedy...

Couple dies on route to popular rock formation
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A lottery system for hikers makes it difficult for many to win a permit to visit a rock formation called The Wave — and that may have colored the judgment of a couple who set out in brutal heat and were found dead along the trail.

That's too bad. I don't think I would do it if I had the permit and it was that hot though. Or I would be really prepared for the worst.

Very sad news. Reminds me of a hike my wife and I went on in the badlands. When the rangers said respect the weather....listen. We were 3 miles in on a 10 mile hike I noticed a storm front headed our way. We finally turned around to head back to our vehicle had straight line winds, heavy rain and hail started once we got there. I'm not a runner, but I'll tell you what I was running my fat ass back to our truck that day. Could have turned out worse.

That is sad news! Interesting how the blame is already being put on "the system" though...

X2! Its tragic and terrible to hear about this outcome! But as always...someone else is to blame other than the victims. Shit happens and its the circle of life. Mother nature will rape your butt if you don't respect her!

Yes I agree. It's sad but nowadays everyone looks for someone to take the blame except those who did the acts/ took action knowing the risk. Sad and tragic indeed, but no government entity is to blame here.

Hmmm. 70 years old, 3 mile hike and it's 106 degrees out? There is the pinnacle of judgement...sounds like darwinism in full effect!

Hell when it's 90 degrees I don't even want to leave my air conditioned house and walk into my garage to grab a fresh beer.
