A conical grinder kinda looks like a ring and pinion. Two ring gears? No pinion? 5.13s?

I haven't. I do have a lot of BRCC points and have considered getting one to add to the arsenal. I'm really partial to my Aeropress, plus it's "quick" considering other brewing methods. I was talking to my aunt a few months ago and she said her dad, my grandpa, brought one home during a business trip back in the 50's or 60's. Totally foreign at the time.I use a french press at work but have you ever tried a Chemex? they make excellent coffee.
And fresh whole beans ground with a burr grinder are mandatory

Taste is 100% subjective and I feel you can't go wrong with either.Yeah, this is my weekend coffee maker. I was going to buy an Aeropress but ended up with this Chemex
haha, like ride quality in a Jeep!Taste is 100% subjective and I feel you can't go wrong with either.
Yeah that's what's keeping me from getting the Chemex. The struggle is real! Just as long as Terraflex stays out of the coffee game we're good...haha.haha, like ride quality in a Jeep!
I was going to buy the Aeropress too but I have two french presses, a coffee maker on the counter, and the Chemex, along with all of my different coffees, filters, cups and other paraphernalia - Mrs Gruff said no more shit in my cupboards!
I'd hardly consider myself an expert. Just a guy who's read some things on the internet so it has to be true....haha.
Tier 1 will cost you, but my recommendation assuming you have a good French press already would be either a Fellow Ode grinder or a Timecore grinder. Both will give you consistent grinds with precise size selectability. Pair that with a Fellow Stag electric gooseneck kettle and you'd be set. .
I have neither of those because I'm cheap...haha. What I've had good luck with is and use everyday is the oXo conical burr grinder and an Amazon electric kettle. Be sure to get a kettle with at least 5° temperature selectability. You don't want one that just boils water as you can't adjust the temperature. Also as I've said before I'd definitely recommend getting an Aeropress. There is so much variability with them and really fun to play with. They make a very smooth, less bitter cup of coffee. In my opinion it really amplifies the flavors of the coffee you're brewing. If you're looking to stay away from plastic they now have a glass and stainless steel version (Tier 1). Or if you want to make more than 1 cup at a time they also have the Aeropress XL.
Don't forget to get a good scale too. I use a Hario V60 scale. The new version allows you to set them for the elevation to give you precise .1g measurements
Hope this helps. What ever you do don't be afraid to play with grind size and temperature to find what you like. Just have fun with it.
No problem!Thanks!
