Built not bought

yup i agree with you built not bought means you didnt take your jeep to a shop and say hey i want this on here cause it looks cool you order the parts then turned the wrenches yourself and took the time to get to know the ins and outs of your jeep

The whole built versus bought thing is bullshit. To be technical about it, I would say that if you order parts made by someone else then it is still bought.

A better sticker would read: "Used Not Displayed".

I'm confused...

While I did tour the Jeep facility in Toledo I still had to buy my jeep. However, I did install most of my parts. Of course, I bought those from a manufacturer who made them.

Does that make mine built, bought or boughuilt? :idontknow:

Oh wait, that's right I don't give a shit.

:cheesy:

You sure get a lot of mileage out of that picture I sent you don't you?

I think you need a sticker that reads "Built by Noah"

Some might think you're religious, or perhaps a Russel Crowe fan, but the rest of us will know it's because it took you 40 days and 40 nights to install your lift.

I have nothing....

What made me ask this was before I signed up here, I was still on the old forum and checking out this kids first jeep build thread. Here comes the premier jeep guru (rather not say names)and starts asking him about his plans. The kid had already done little things here and there. And told him his plans. Then the guru starts telling him he can't do these things because he had no experience and probably too expensive for him. The kid said he wanted to do all the work himself to save money and learn about his jeep. The guru then informed him that "it takes more than a couple cans of plasti dip and a quadratec catalogue to be a master jeep builder".
Then bragged how a "master jeep builder" makes his own parts. Kinda pissed me off. Felt bad for the kid.
So to me, Eddie hit the nail on the head. And that's when I found this forum and glad there isn't assholes like that here.

All mods were done by the person whose ride it is. Wasn't put in a shop for every little modification going on car

Let me guess, the Jeep you have is your first?

To be clear, the phrase "built not bought" in the off road world refers to guys that actually "build" or "make" the components on their Jeep like control arms, bumpers, armor, cage, etc. For those of us who've been doing it long enough, there've been times that it was the only way to get what you wanted or really needed. Unfortunately, just like the Jeep wave, the term has been lost to those who want to think that they're badass just because they installed an aftermarket product that they "bought". Of course, you can keep on believing whatever it is you want to believe if it makes you feel better about yourselves :yup:

You hear that Eddie! Your mall crawlers are bought not built!

What can I say, sucks to be all the people that can't afford to have a great shop like Off Road Evolution do the work for them. :yup:

if the shoe fits......... now remember i did not say that they were any less capable by no means but that is the definition of built not bought

:cheesy: I have little doubt that what guys today will chose to believe but it's a far cry from what it used to mean.

I'm with you. The only people I ever hear use the phrase or have a sticker with it on their Jeep are losers who want to believe they are somehow more badass than the next guy just because they made their own nasty ass bumper or by today's standard, installed their own lift.

Shit I'm paying for the next one. I can't handle another lift install. :cheesy:

But it'll make you more manly. Don't you want to be able to brag about how awesome you are? You can even put a sticker on your Jeep that says as much just like all the other cool guys?

 so people with that decal are Dbags?

Or mentality at all

There's an old thread that got heated on this topic....and it's mostly based on people thinking their sack hangs lower just because they built their Jeep. Those people are tools and I have no time for them. I always ask them about their hand made control arm joints and wheels since they are master fabricators.

My Jeep is technically "built not bought" based on this definition, but that's because I am a cheap ass honky. I would have much rather sent mine off to EVO and picked it up a few days later :yup:

LOL, installing your own lift sucks without the right tools, welder, plasma cutter, etc. I just dropped mine off and picked it up a couple days later. :thankyou:

I think I'm going to fab up some stickers that say "bought not built". Will blend nicely with my OC Bitch decal. 😉
