Hi everyone, being that I'm 100% new to offroading I just wanted to ask if anyone has some tips to get me on the right track. So anything from Driving techniques, safety ( besides good old common sense haha) or etiquette on the trail would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

Best advise would be to hook up with a local reputable off road club and get some real life training. Reading forums and books is good but never can replace putting some mud on the tires!!! Welcome to the Wayalife brother!!!!

My advice would be to buy these items and go have fun...

Deflators
Power Tank
Swaybar disconnects
Tow strap

Def hook up with a jeep buddy so they can show u about how to choose the right line and about being off camber. Most of us learned by just hitting the trail but having someone with exp can save you and give u some nice pointers

I don't always wheel , but when I do I keep it tight......... Stay dirty my friends.

As everyone mentioned, grab a wheeling buddy and hit the trails. There's nothing like real world experience to learn from. Start slow and test your abilities as a driver as well as the abilities of your rig. I started by myself (i have no real wheeling buddies) and just slowly worked my way up from the small stuff. Try to learn as much about your rig as possible, the more you know about it the more comfortable youll be as a driver. When I started to learn the capabilities of my jeep it made me much more comfortable on the trails knowing what the jeep could and couldn't handle. Just take it slow and have fun! Oh and take care of your rig, it'll thank you when the time comes. Happy wheeling!

Yep.

You will also find that is the "mod" you could do to your jeep. Installing that ass in that seat. A stock rig can go so many more places than people think, in the hand of a good driver that has a good amount of time behind the wheel of that jeep. I see so many people miss out on alot of good opportunities to ride because they are "waiting for that 4 inch lift" or "they are waiting for that front locker" only to go out and brake somethin the first time on the new parts because they still didn't know how to drive and ride trails that's over there head.

Just have fun, enjoy the wayalife, and build when the time is right.

I am surprised no one mentioned the biggest part of 4 wheeling .Stay on designated trails , don't just wonder off trails through brush and plants . It is the reason trails are closed all the time . Also do not trash the outdoors . Always bring your trash out with you . Also please pick up any trash you may come across , leave the trail cleaner than how you found them .Go to Tread lightly! and read what they have to say .Also see the blue ribbon coalition , they are devoted to keeping trails open.

couldn't agree more about the rubbish, i always pick up the crap people leave at surf spots and will continue it on the trail.
its amazing how little respect some people have :grayno:

This is some good info ^ here
Stock jeeps can do a lot, get out and enjoy! Then you will find out what you need to change or modify on your jeep, but most importantly, don't wait, just do it!

having common sense is a good start. I think you can learn a lot from some stupidity and/or bad luck of off roader on youtube. Make your own personal experience gradually while staying in your comfort zone until you're fully aware of your jeep's capabilities. Never wheel alone, you never know what might break up. That is unforgiving.

If you ever plan modding, take your time with your decision. Don't jump on the cheap part just because you can't afford those more expensive right away. It'll be better to wait a little longer and have something way better.
