37's or 38's ??

So I'm running toyo 37's and I think it's about time to get some new shoes. I really like the toyos, and have never had an issue. I am gonna run flat fenders and am currently running 4.5 long arm. The question is, any thoughts on going up to 38" tires instead of 37? Thanks in advance

Might be a little much for stock rubi axles? My brother just bent his sleeved and gusseted rubi 44 on 35s.

But then again, bigger is always better isn't it?

If you are having good luck with your 37s I personally would stick with them as those Toyo's are awesome! I am gonna stay with my Nitto 37s when I get new ones.
:beer::beer:

I'm really torn.... What are disadvantages on going with 40's?? Steering? Axles? Or do I just stick with 38's??

Personally, I prefer to run common size tires like 35", 37" or 40" if for no other reason than the fact that it's easier to find a spare if needed or bum one off a friend. 38" is just a weird size. As far as going 40's, I don't know about anyone else but I started breaking plenty of stuff with just 37's - 40's only made it that much worse. Of course, if you're looking for a reason to upgrade parts, 40's will give it to you :yup:

Just testing my knowledge here...
Won't you have to regear run 40s? In which case, I imagine the D44 ring and pinion would be the first thing to go. I think this happened in one of the wayalife vids (the Dusy?).
Based off that, I would get 40s when you get something beefier under your rig unless you're fine with breaking something sooner.
If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I do have major concerns breaking more shit with 40's. As far as a spare goes, I'm not worried as I will always carry one. I'm just looking for options as I need to pull the trigger on new shoes soon. What would you consider needed upgrades for running 40's?

If it's a 07-11, the motor to start. I hate my 07 with 37's and 5:38's in the mountains.
Axle truss and gussets.
Gears.
BRAKES!!
Tranny cooler.
Driveshafts
Hydro assist.
Do it right or it really could bring the suck and make the jeep less fun to drive.
I personally wouldn't even put anything bigger than 37's with the older motor without some kind of additional motor power.

Do you have 60's? If not start there.

Well, if you're gonna run 40s on stock rubi axles AND ACTUALLY WHEEL IT HARD, then the first thing you should get is a tow rig and a trailer so you can at least get home after it breaks.

If you don't plan on wheeling hard, it is "possible" to run on those axles.... Just not recommended as you will still break things eventually.. But, with that being said, if you don't wheel hard, then there is no reason that you need 40s..

I would stick with the 37s until you can get some big axles under there.

I'm not trying to be a dick, just trying to save you from breaking down in the middle of nowhere..

have purchased 37" and ran about 1000km offroad km's without any truble and decided to try 40" nitto mud grapplers for a bit more hardcore offroading. in few days, i bent front lower arm, ti-rod, drag link and all steering geometery. + 2 of rear fox shocks. yes that all on 200km of crawling.
If your pocket has a very very deeeeeeep hole with credit card bill all paid off to start fresh, then i'd still go with 40" tires.

now, 2013 jeep has no warrenty papers with axles swapped, long arm conversion, and so on. Thanks to 40" tires my long arm sure feel much smoother + king coilover does what it should do!

but i'd stick to 37" if you never felt that bigger tires would help you to go around trails. 40" sure looks good but never ending breakage in the bush and your bank.

Yep, all great points. Although I like the idea of 40's, I think I'll weld my truss on and stick with 37 or 38's. I wheel it pretty hard and would certainly like durability that breakability.

Really? I like my 5.13s and 37s, don't mind going a little slower and have sometimes thought - well, if I get a couple of PR44s or PR60s I'll get 5.38s then this 3.8 will do all right.
Surprised by your opinion but then we all have different ideas of performance.

Yep I hear ya...Now back when I lived in the flat lands of Mississippi it was fine. Now living out here in Utah. It sucks driving in the mountains. Overheated going over vail pass in Colorado. Wants to run 5.500k when going up a steep hill. Just not enough motor for my heavy rig. Rig is 5700 for daily driving and lots more when going on a trip.
I drive like a old man everywhere. Usually set the cruise on 68mph.

I'm not spending another dime on upgrades unless it for more power.
And to think I almost went with 40's before I moved out here, SO glad I did not get them.
