1948 Willys CJ-2A

Getting back to Virginia I checked out all the vehicles to make sure everything was working.

I took the Willys over to the local brewery to make sure it was working properly. It works!!
The fuel pump has a lever to prime the pump and carburetor and even after several weeks of not running it is easy to start.

Damn this makes me want to get an old Willy's Jeep! Its a clean looking rig.
 
Inspired by @piginajeep I decided to check out my Willys distributor. Kaiser has been running a little rough lately and I have never popped the cap off and looked inside.

After popping the distributor cap off I found some corrosion on the terminals and rotor. A little clean up and it looked like new. When I went to reinstall the cap I realized it had been on wrong and was 180 degrees off. The firing sequence is fine but the locator tab was 180 degrees off of its notch in the distributor body.

The tab near my forefinger was located at the ‘12 O’clock’ position but should be aligned so it locks into the slot at the ‘6 o’clock’ of the distributor body.

Not only did this incorrect alignment allow for slight rotation of the cap, it also allowed for moisture to enter.

I pulled the plug wires off, rotated the cap, and reinstalled the wires in the proper position.

It fired right up and ran very smoothly.

I drove into the backyard and did some laps. I realized I had not had Kaiser in 4x4 since I had installed the locking hubs, new axle shafts and limited slip. I drove around playing with the transfercase until @Traciehue came out and looked at me like I was retarded. (Actually she says “On the spectrum”.) We then drove around the neighborhood and the Willys ran great.

I am still extremely happy that I bought this Willys and have had a great time with it. I truly enjoy working on it and have discovered small things here and there that need tweaking, but for a vehicle that is 77 years old it’s doing pretty darn good!
