Relocated RUBICAT's EVO DTD Rear Remote Reservoirs

This is a follow-up to a thread that I made a while ago regarding an EVO DTD coil over reservoir failure we had on Rubicat. On one of our wheeling trips, we made a stop and found a pretty good size leak coming from the passenger side rear reservoir.

After getting back home and cleaning things up, we found that the leak was coming from a hole in the reservoir hose. Even though the body sits a whole 1/8" or so away from the hose at ride height, the JK has true body mounts in that they're isolators and this allowed the body to move up and down enough to make contact with the hose and chafe its way through.

Here's a better shot of the damaged hose after pulling the coil over off of Rubicat.

I checked the driver side to see if the same thing was happening and can tell you that I just caught it in the nick of time. After making repairs to the damaged coil over and reinstalling it on Rubicat, I moved both reservoirs forward and had them secured in place using just the one hose clamp. It isn't an ideal setup as it can cause warping of the reservoir and allow nitrogen and oil to get past the IFP but, that would be easier to deal with than another damaged hose.

It took me a lot longer to address than I had hope but today, I finally got around to cutting off the reservoir mounts and relocated them to prevent the hose from making any contact with the tub.

Anyway, it's nothing earth shattering and really, I'm just posting this up more to document the work I've done so that I have a record of it.

You mean you actually fixed it yourself and didn't call EVO (ORE) and ask what to do and find out who is responsible for that?.... Too soon?..haha. I always like making my own repairs when possible and sharing how to overcome problems which may affect others.

:cheesy: Too funny.

Like you, I just hope a post like this can help others identify a potential problem they might have and if needed, get it fixed.

I should note that this is only a problem if you have your remote reservoirs mounted on the frame rails like Rubicat. Of course, this was done a lot so that people could actually see you have King coil overs installed. On Moby, all the reservoirs are mounted under the EVO lever frame and unless you went looking for them, you couldn't even tell what kind of suspension he's running

I need to move my reservoirs as well. They are very tight to the rear sway bar and because the adjusters face down can be susceptible to hits. 20170602_140920.jpg

I know it's stupid, but I like the EVO bolt on coilover kit better just because you can see it.

What's involved in replacing a hose? One of my front king 2.5 shocks got a gash (not past the SS braid) from the axle vent line clip sawing into it. I caught it in time, and removed the clips. So if a hose blows, what's involved in fixing it? I have a nitrogen charging set up, but no idea on what kind of oil to put in and how much to use.

If you caught it before the stainless steel braid got cut, you should be fine running it as is. Otherwise, replacing it isn't too hard especially if you have nitrogen charging setup. The oil can be purchased directly from King.

Well, you said it yourself in the very first fragment...

Yeah, the DTD is cool in real life. Mel ran the Baja 1000 in EVO 1 without a major breakdown, I don't know what more testing would prove the worth of that system. Whether you can see the shocks or not, no other system comes close. I do like Eddie's alternative to mounting the reservoir.

Poster shot right there. Besides being the best setup out there its also the sexiest! :brows:

LOL!! It's almost a shame you can't really see any of it unless you really look. But then, that's a big part of what makes it so cool :yup:

Damn system is amazing. JeffJ is gonna be at Rausch Creek this weekend with his rig running this setup - I will be the goof with his boots sticking out from underneath his Jeep checking it out firsthand. Can't wait actually!
