Working from home

That's awesome. I recently applied for a job that is based out of Boise. As much as I love Boise I'm kind of stuck in So-Cal for the time being. I spoke with the supervisor of the position asking if the job could be done remotely from a So-Cal office. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go that route but was open to the idea. Keeping my fingers crossed it'd be great if they could do that and I was able to work from my house.

Hope you get it! If you need help convincing him, let me know 👍

I work from home as well. While it does have definite benefits, it's not all that culture makes it out to be, IMO. Go figure, when you're at your desk for 30 minutes with no calls nor emails, you decide to take a 2 minute break to make a sandwich or throw something in the wash and all hell breaks loose....phone calls...emails....pissed off customers. Lol. Never fails, every time. The other thing that's hard on me is that you are in the same exact environment, all day long. You wake up at work, you get off and are still at work. Pros are saving gas, don't need to dress up, see the family a little more. My job actually keeps me busy enough that I'm pretty much in front of the screen all day long, it is what it is. Busy enough that I have stuff I can do on my Jeep 20 feet away, but can't get to it during the day :grayno:

This is a government job I'm speaking of so though it will keep me busy I'll have plenty of "free" time..haha. I live 10 mins from my current location and so many times I wish I could just be on call from home..haha

Good luck, man. Hope it works out for you.

My wife's job is partly at the schools she teaches at, and partly at home. Which, while I love my wife immensely, I could never work from home.

Besides, I have a job I truly like and get to go around Eastern PA. But I've worked up and down the East Coast, Bermuda and Hawaii over the years. And I work with some of the best guys out there. And don't have to spend a lot of time in the same place, or doing the same thing.

But, sometimes when I'm out of town, or driving a couple of hours to work, I wonder what it would be like to have a job at home or near home then that goes out of my head quickly.

I don't work from home, I don't think I could. But my wife does, and WJCO's description fits most of her days, and her feelings about it to a T. Some days she can't even get up to go to the bath room. That being said, she wouldn't trade it for anything either.

Wouldn't trade it, but it's not the utopia it's made out to be.

That pretty much covers it. It's nice working in shorts and a t-shirt but 60 hours a week in front of a laptop at home is still 60 hours a week in front of a laptop.

I work from home when I'm not traveling. It's pretty popular in CO clearly. I'm not a huge fan personally but have been doing it for years and definitely has its perks.

Things I've discovered that greatly help.

1) a dedicated office with a door I can close
2) house rule that when the door is closed, I'm not to be disturbed, or at least knock
3) I use a 4 monitor system that I like
4) work in the office, not on the couch
5) a good set of headphones with a quality mic so others can hear me clearly
6) high speed Internet
7) don't wear sweatpants to work, even if no one will see me

I'm sorry, but I don't think playing Space Invaders should count as "work"

Win 10 has multiple desktops. Get with the times man!

Ha! Haters got to hate. Yes, it's a vertical monitor devoted just to Slack. No matter how great virtual desktops are, I love having it be in a different physical space.
