Can you rock crawl with a manual trans? How many of you guys have manuals? The wife and I have 4 vehicles and all but one are sticks. S10 extreme, Mazda Miata, PT Cruiser [auto] and our 2014 Wrangler Unlimited. We don't have much rock crawling here in south florida as its all flat and mostly muddy but we plan on traveling to the mountains on vacation.

Its done all the time. If you building a dedicated rock rig.... Like big rocks, and thats what you love to do. I would recommend an auto. But if its the normal wheelin with the occasional boulder or two a 6 speed is fine.

Be careful not to ride the clutch, let the rig pull itself over the rocks. I do it all the time

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! 1st gear and 4 low and you could walk next to your Jeep. With a Rubicon it's even lower. People don't realize the potential of Wranglers

With your 35's that I just saw you won't be as low as stock, but the size of your tire will benefit you more than the gearing. Something to think about if you get addicted to it though:thumb:

Do they make Jeeps that are auto trans? Why would anyone buy one if they did? Maybe if I bought one for my girl or my kid. But then again, we only mall crawl in Vegas.

Thanks for settling my mind. When I was in the service I had a M151 and went though some crazy stuff. I've always loved manuals but the guys down here all seem to choose autos. Even the salesman at the dealer was surprised we wanted a stick.

I had to drive 70 miles just to test drive a JKU 6 speed. I had to order it too, dealers always have to many options when they order. Since the JK's came out, I feel the number of Jeeps that actually go offroading has gone down drastically. Just yesterday a group of my friends were wondering how all of my wheels got scraped so bad. Also, must people I talk to want Rubicons. When I ask them what makes a Wrangler a Rubicon, they have no idea other than the sticker and have no intention of taking it offroad :twocents:

Sticker's thats it, Im going to order me a set right now:blush:

Talked to a buddy of mine who used work parts at a Jeep dealership, he said they sold more "Rubicon" hood decals than anything else. Disappointing.

I kinda feel bad for the people who buy those rigs used thinking they're getting a Rubi but not actually knowing what to look for. They pay more for it then realize after the fact they were ripped off.

Moby was a manual up until the motor swap and I drive a manual. Sometime I stall more then others but when using the hand brake and using it correctly you won't stall. Especially if you have a 4:1 or lower transfer case.

LOL!! Wow, you're such a badass. When I grow up, I hope I can be just like you : yup:

Sure you can. As mentioned, up until recently, a manual is the only thing we've ever owned and wheeled. They are fun and with some experience, they can be wheeled well. Having said that, autos are just plain easier and in the really big rocks, have the advantage. This is why professional rock crawlers all run autos.

Wheeled manual for years. Now have a 2012 auto and my penis has not gotten any smaller despite the warnings. Auto trans actually let's me enjoy the ride.

My 2014 has a hill assist feature will that keep me from having to use the ebrake?
