TRANSFORMATION of the RUBICON : Before & After Photos 5 Years in the Making

Sorry for the resurrection.
Not sure why're your apologizing but it's all good by me.
I'm sure the next post in 2026 will be "Why did the trail get rerouted???", because that is happening in August 2026.
I could be mistaken but the fact that this thread hadn't been posted on in 6 years should kind of give you an idea of just how much this website is looked at for information regarding the Rubicon Trail. Heck, I just did a google search and gave up looking for it after the first half a dozen pages. I'm pretty sure that most people get well needed trail info from:

But, that's just me.

Looks like you’re getting a rash of shit but I kinda enjoyed the read.

Also appreciate the efforts of RTF to keep the trail open and the RTF loop too. I always make sure to stop and BS Glen parked in the shade at the top of the slabs on my way through. Thought I missed him last time but he was just on a detour, he had bombed off the trail and hauled ass to pick up an oil pan for someone that cracked theirs.

Actually I kinda did too.

I just read it out of context or whatever at first glance.

Thanks. Some people care deeply and know exactly how close we've come to losing the Rubicon Trail to closure. My post is for the people that care. People that think they're funny slinging slurs, don't interest me.

For sure. And I do appreciate your photo comparisons. Heck, that's how I found the thread in the first place, looking for photos of the Lilttle Sluice and Big Sluice signs for our video on the ONLY sign left from the 70s and 80s...the Airport sign. That is posted on our YouTube channel.

Why is the Airport sign, the only sign left on the trail?

And there are several videos about the re-route coming in 2026 on our YouTube channel. It was originally planned for August 2025, but funding wasn't secured by TNF until June 2025, and that wasn't enough time. RTF is funding this $250,000 project, so the vendor can be paid timely, then will be reimbursed by TNF later, minus 20% in matching funds. So our total out of pocket will be around $30-50k depending on volunteer hours. This re-route has been 7 years in the making, originally initiated by El Dorado County, but completed by TNF since they own the road.
