PSA about Medicare and Supplement Policies

Okay, my Mom passed.

I'm an only Brat and everything fell onto me.

Here is something I found out while going through Mom's finances and accounts and I want to share.


IF, your parents, grandparents, elderly friends (Pay Attention Clay) have Medicare AND a supplemental policy you need to check some things out.

My Mother had Humana Gold, upscaled Medicare coverage, IF one has an upgraded Medicare policy, then the supplemental plan they are paying for does NOTHING. It's the way the program is set up. So, check their policies. If they have an upgraded Medicare you need the effective date of the upgraded policy, the policy number, SS number, DOB, address, and phone number of the covered person. You CAN claw back the premiums paid, but they try to make it difficult.
It's a SCAM they play on Seniors, no one tells you unless you ask the right questions. They just collect the premiums knowing they never have to pay out and if not caught, it's pure profit.

It's a grey area, one I didn't know about until I tried to get some things covered by the supplemental plan and THAT'S when the lady accidentally spilled the beans.

Medicare won't tell you, because it's not part of their policy. It's all on the secondary insurer.

You're quite welcome. Best I can figure they owe her 2 years and 8 months of premiums. I know what the current premium rate is, but her bank won't give me access that far back to see what the premium rates were.
 
Yeah my dad had a stroke and my mom was handling his Medicare. She passed and it all fell on me. Ive been going round and round trying to cancel his Humana drug coverage as its not used. It's ridiculous

Sorry for your loss. Big thing to is Social Security wants back the money for the month the person dies in. IOW if they die on July 31 they expect all the money for July back, and they will take it directly.

SS was notified, I'll find out on the 27th if they stopped payments.
