ON THE MAUI TRAIL: South Road to Hana in Stock 2000 TJ

Yesterday I did some Show & Tell about my brand new 2000 TJ in Colorado : https://www.wayalife.com/threads/pearl-pass-crested-butte-co-to-summit-in-stock-2000-tj.65649/

Well, my JEEP has been everywhere man!

In 2010 I moved to Maui. And yes, I shipped my trusty 2000 TJ to the island! Here is a document of exactly that as I drive the south side of the island to Hana. (Rental companies won't allow you to take their vehicles that way.) Quite a difference from 12,705 feet in the Rocky Mountains to near sea level on the most remote land mass on the planet! Notice the blue Crested Butte sticker still on the upper left of the rear window.

Fun times!

Forrest Gump!

I did the back way to Hana or the south side in a rental a few years ago. Hardly difficult but extremely beautiful.
Yeah it's not difficult really but the rental car companies don't want anyone taking their vehicles back there because tow trucks charge an arm & a leg to come rescue if need be. I believe the rental contract states they won't pay anything if you break down in their vehicle on the south road.

I've driven to Hana many times...camped at Kipahulu, and have hiked up Ohe'o Gulch to the pools...it is a beautiful area. You used to be able to drive from the south west side but the bridge at Alelele was knocked out from an earthquake many years ago and knowing how things move in Hawaii, I bet it is still not repaired and impassable.

I see you are from Mainland on your profile. Did you live on Maui at some point?

I found a pic of my old 2000 TJ atop Haleakala.
