That’s crazy the differences. Does the insurance company have a vote on where the Jeep goes?

No problem at all! I’m looking for any and all information as I start the next stage of this process. I’ve never been thru anything like this. Hell, I haven’t been in a car accident since I was 17 so this is all new territory for me.

I’d be interested to see, and I’m sure they don’t, if they do anything to compensate her for the loss of value of the vehicle since it has a decent accident tied to it now. Yours will really take a value hit won’t it?

That sucks! Glad you are ok and the family wasn’t with ya!
I don't know about your state, but in Oregon the other insurance company is also liable for diminished value. That’s a very good point, I would think that it would. Especially since anyone buying a truck like that intends to tow with it and to tow with a potentially compromised truck is a risk, the value to anyone buying the truck is going to be much less.

My wife was rear ended in her Volvo, 15 years ago by a 1997 Cummins, not a scratch on his truck, but bent the trunk lid and broke a taillight. The diminished value was $15,000.

Interesting. Thank you. I’ve got a lot to learn over the next couple of weeks.

Yeah the diminished value is a non starter thing here. They fix it back to factory specs so there’s “no value loss.” According to them at least. If you have gap insurance you can get a bit more so that you can replace a new vehicle with the same new vehicle with no depreciation. But in this state everything is a joke. You’ll get a fixed truck, you’ll get $1000 from the mini tort towards your deductible. You said alcohol was involved and that switches to civil suit as well which you can look into representation To go after their insurance for that. But that’s a whole different thing. Hopefully everything goes smooth for ya, most claims do, if they repair it and it’s not up to your satisfaction DO NOT sign anything or pick it up.

Totally agree. Hopefully it is just totaled out and this all becomes a non issue. I have new replacement since the vehicle is only 5 months old with a 110% value. My uncle is a adjuster for car dealerships claims. He’s going to help me behind the scenes to make sure it all goes smooth. If it goes towards repair, he strongly suggest a full tear down inspection prior to any numbers being given. It’s the only way to truly identify mechanical and frame problems. He’s seen a number of vehicles start off with a standard repair claim only to open up Pandora’s box once they get into the engine bay and the vehicle is then totaled but with a huge amount of time wasted. We’ll see what the next couple of weeks bring.

Hey, good to hear you got some help to get you thru all this mess. Hope it works out good for you Bill. You still feeling ok?
ThisHow are you? Hearing about it has put me on alert. PTSD is real and should be addressed.
I experienced something similar years ago and never talked or tried to understand what I was feeling. I’ve picked up a couple of cues about how you feel and it’s messed up. Be honest about it. It’s easy to silver line it but stop and think how you were and how you are now. What’s changed and why?

Oof, glad to see that you’re doing ok. Scary looking pictures for sure! Maybe I missed it, but did the woman get charged with anything? I hope you get this all behind you soon!
Well it’s bitter sweet, but the Ram was just totaled. It’s better from a safety standpoint and it’s the right move, but I did really enjoy that truck. So the Ram 2.0 will look something like this in about 4-5 months.
