What is this thing?

Hey guys, Sorry if this was discussed before but i had no idea how to search for this.

I havent had a chance to get under the Jeep since bringing it home late last night. Wtf is this thing? ive seen it on some newer jeeps but not all. can it be removed?

It's a lame bracket that Jeep started to install to help protect passengers in a very specific collision. And, it's kind of a pain to remove.

It’s a safety feature. Even if he did remove it , which I don’t think he has, probably wouldn’t be smart to make a video on it in case of an accident.

It helps avoid roll-over by preventing the tire from getting tucked under the chassis.

late 22 from what i was able to uncover now that i know what that thing is for. this is one reason why i love this forum.

JKs never shipped with those but in case a tire was to penetrate through the cabin the occupant's legs would offer some level of protection.

It's a added crash bar - to prevent tire intrusion/injury in a very specific small overlap case. Essentially you would have to hit a concrete pole at just the right corner for that thing to even matter.
