Trump

Well here's a scary thought. Clinton actually won the popular vote. Luckily that vote doesn't really matter as it goes based on electorate votes for each state. What's scat is that nearly half the people in this country are truly idiots. Not that we needed an election to figure that out.

That's funny, we disagree, and totally agree.

Or close to half. I am one that would love to get rid of the electoral college.

There are a lot of people that don't vote, especially in a state like the communist state of California, because as a republican your vote rarely counts.

Although this election had some really important ballot measures, like if porn stars should be required by law to wear condoms. Yep, it's true, WTF.[emoji35]. This state sucks. Oh and we legalized pot but you have to have a background check to buy ammo. F'ing idiots!

So much truth for one post.

I would also like to see this dinosaur go extinct. That would make every persons vote truly count and get the voters out for the presidential elections. How many didn't vote as you said because they
thought their vote wouldn't count?

Maybe since this has happened to the Dems twice now they might even go along with that.:idontknow: More than likely not though.

In a lot of ways, this is why the Electoral College exists - to help give a voice to people who would otherwise not have one. A vast majority of America's population exist in places like California and New York and really, just in their major cities like Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and the like. Need proof, just look at the election map above. Many city dwellers have no understanding or appreciation for those who live in middle America and/or in rural communities and if popular vote were the only thing that mattered, those Americans would never have a voice. It may be far from a perfect system but I'll take it. Of course, that's just my opinion.

They should vote, regardless.

I continue to hear this banter about doing away with the electoral college. But if you stop and think about it, that would be one of the worst ideas.

If it didn't exist. Elections would only focus on high population areas (2 coasts) and it would be a fly over election - meaning that only people who would actually select the president would be those in the high population areas of the east and west coast, because their totals are greater than the totals of voters every where else (as a percentage of the total voting base).

Think about it, it would actually be easier to rig an election. Over the course of the 4 years between elections, all you'd have to do it get people to move or congregate in the already high population areas.

And because all of the people in the middle, would never really have a vote that counted, you'd continue to see a smaller and smaller voting percentage - why vote if your vote doesn't count.

All of the above would allow for most likely a more liberal, government regulated, government provided for population of voters, ones that feel there sustenance comes from the government so they are obliged to vote for those that offer the greater benefit(s).

Me personally, I kinda like to think that I have a vote for a portion of that actual voting base that will select the president. This last election highlights this more than any prior. States like Arizona, Wisconsin, Iowa, etc had a real say in the election process. That has moved around over the years which is a sign of the moving electorate - which is good, and creates diversity as well and less capability for a population base to control the election. We had enough with media control this time, I'd shudder to think was control would be like by large city population control...

Just a nickel for the topic, but find the time to read and understand why it exits. Just saying the highest vote total wins, IMHO isn't the best, appropriate, preferred approach. Unless that is you want to control the election ...

Honestly, yes the electoral college still has to vote, but those 279 electoral votes that trump "has" are still controlled by republicans. And if you do some research you'll find the the "rogue" electorals have never changed the outcome of an election.

to many of these points, this reminds me of when I lived in central New York. many people in the large state of New York have different views and needs as it relates to the government compared to those in the New York city area- however that's where the majority of the population exists so therefore alot of the laws are built around the city and their needs. for example gun ownership and laws- there is a huge divide in those who live in the city and in the entire rural areas in the rest of the state. regardless of your views the map essentially shows the desires of America as a whole not just on population centers. all the blue on the map would barely fill up California but it's where major cities are.

In a lot of ways, I kind of wish we could get the same kind of representation within our own state. Clark County (Las Vegas) is where 70% of Nevada's population resides and unfortunately, they end up dictating policy for the rest of us.
