Tire help, 33's or 35's

Hello Everyone,
I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and I have a stock 2012 JKU Sport currently with P225/75R16 tires. I drive about 90% on pavement and would like to upgrade without much overall work.
I know 33 inch tires should fit without a lift, how much of a lift will i need to go to 35's. If i go to 35's will I need wheel spacers, what about bumper rub? My Jeep is black and I do like the looks of black rims on a black jeep. It would be a great help if i can see pictures of other Jeeps with both types of tires.

Welcome aboard. Below are pics of my '12 JKU-Rubi with both 35s & 33" tires. I first ran 33s then moved up to 35s. If you are still going to use your stock rims then you should get 1.5" wheel spacers. If you are going to run after market rims then get rims with 4"-4.5" bacspacing...

Forgot to mention I am running a 2.5" Rock krawler coil lift kit...

This is my previous Jeep with 33s and 2.5" lift.

And then same car, same lift with 35s and flat fenders ImageUploadedByWAYALIFE1438153025.687869.jpg . There's some good threads on cutting the stock fender flares as well, if you want to save some money.

What gears do you have? I had 33's then moved to 35's, I have 3.73 gears and with the 35's it's livable but I want to re-gear. When I had 33's they were just fine.

With 33's no lift

With stock wheels you will have to use wheel spacers with 35's and I had the same wheels as you when I ran the 33's I plastic dipped them. So that will give you a idea how they look black.

I currently have a 3" lift with 33's and as soon as my tires need replacement I will be going to 35's

I went with 33's for about 500 miles then switched to 35's

I have a 2 1/2 inch lift and 1 1/2 inch spacers.
I have 3:21 gears and they are getting redone on Friday to 4:88

35's with the stock gears make it a dog big time!

From what i have found out i have 3.21 Gears, and going to a different grear size might be down the line. I may just put a 2.5 lift and 33's, and when its time to replace tires i can go to 35's and change gears at the same time. Doing the lift, tires, rims, and gears at the same time would be nice but it will hit hard on the bank.

You don't need to do a lift to run 33's.

If you're going to be on the pavement 90% of the time then there's no need for a coil suspension lift. Do a 2" bb lift and run 305 or 315/70/17 tires. Bigger than 33's but not a big as 35's. They'll also work better with the 3:21 gears. The budget lift also keeps the stock drive quality. The $$ saved on the lift can be spent on some nice wheels, which you need.

315/70/17 measure 34.5".
305/70/17 measure 33.8".
Neither is as wide as a 35" too. It may slightly vary with different brands but none are bigger than a 35". Anyway, it's only a suggestion.

Yea, what im saying is a 35 never actually measures 35. A 315 is not going to be a smaller alternative. Plenty of 315/70s are bigger than 35s.

Yea, what im saying is a 35 never actually measures 35. A 315 is not going to be a smaller alternative. Plenty of 315/70s are bigger than 35s.

You are correct. I was skeptical at first of Eddie saying that a 315 is really closer to a 37, but after seeing a set of 315s next to a set of 37s, I have to agree. They're not as wide, but they're definitely closer to a 37 height wise than a 35.

I know it, but thats just NITTO, they may not know what size their tires are...lol
