Quarantine Trailer Project

Thats Cool!! Are you going to install a Roof Top Tent, Battery, Fridge, Propane etc... or just keep it simple for storage?

Thanks and yes, all the above eventually. Also a tank and water heater so the wife can have hot showers as well. It also those things will just kind of get done in due time. The main thing is the extra room so our family of 4 and 2 dogs can get out camping comfortably.

Trailer is looking great! Any idea what kinda hot shower setup you have in mind? I’m sure it’s a ways off as you finish up the trailer but was just curious. I just ordered a joolca nomad setup to help keep the boss lady happy on camp trips. If it ever shows up I hope it works well.

What are your plans for paint? Color match to the jeep?

Yes. Black frame and fenders and Anvil tub. Bed liner of some sort inside and maybe the fenders. Was thinking I’ll just do one of the factory paint match rattle can jobbers for the time being. I’m sure as I continue building I’ll want to drill holes, weld brackets etc and it would be a shame to mess up a good paint job. Maybe once I’m happy with the way it is I’ll get it professionally painted.

Thanks. I haven’t fully made up my mind but was just looking at something simple like the Camp Chef Triton or something similar. Let me know what you think of the Joolca as that looks like a pretty good setup.

That thing will look fantastic with gloss paint and textured fenders.

The Campchef water heater looks bitchen too, I ended up getting only a 5 Lb propane tank not sure if it will be enough for a water heater and cooking but you've got me thinking about it now.

I got the tailgate latches placed tonight but still have to build the receiver pieces for the pins, weld those on and drill the last few holes for the mounting bolts.

I’m also trying to decide on how to mount the rear stabilizer jacks. Let me know what your opinions are.

I was planning to mount them at the rear most corners but the taillights are in the way. I can still put them there and just build a little extension tube to clear the lights. I don’t really care for the lights and only used them because I already had them so if I change to something more streamlined in the future I can just toss the extension piece.

Or I can mount them on the rear step portion of the fender. No issue with clearing the lights and they’d be tucked in a little tighter. I kind of like this idea since I plan to flip them upside down for travel. There is some sacrifice in stability but you can see the outline I drew (in the metal dust) where the foot was from the location above. It doesn’t move the foot that much. Other downside is the fender support there is 1-1/2 and the mount for the jack is 2” so it would seem as clean to me.

What if you ditch the lights as is, and get some of the cheap bullet style LEDs and drill them into the frame.

One would not be enough to be legal, but if you did say five, one in the corner, and two going up with two across. It would be unique, and no trail damage.

That’s an option to consider. I was trying to avoid drilling any holes in the frame that would allow water in to prevent rust. Thanks.

You won't gain any stability by moving them out farther, I used the same jacks and there is so much play in the mount it won't make a difference.

Would it work to move the lights up a few inches?

If I were you I would do flush mount LED tail lights now while you're still fabbing, gonna be a pain to add later, anything that hangs off like those cheapie trailer lights is gonna get hit by something, tree, branch, or worse - leg.

Also, they're really not expensive.

Amazon is similar prices if you're lazy like me and like things delivered. But I can vouch for the above HF lights, they're bright, submersible, and havent broken one yet. Old TJ ran the markers in the front grille as turn/ running lights (2 Wire) the 4" lights as brake/run (3 wire) and the Ovals on a trailer (3 wire).

Been slacking on getting this thing finished. But with summer fast approaching I need to get motivated.

Stopped by Line-x on my way to the paint shop and found out there is some nationwide material shortage so they’re booking out till like July. The paint shop is going to go ahead and raptorline the interior and just paint the fenders the body color. Once material is available I’ll take it back down to get the fenders Line-x’d. Still a lot to do but it’s coming along now.

Looks good... I'm excited to see what it will look like with paint

Slacking on the few updates I have.
got the trailer back from paint. Turned out great. I should have done a better job on the filler where I ground the spot welds though. You can see those spots in the sun but otherwise looks pretty good. They also raptorlined the interior.

Bought some HD drawer slides, footman loops and straps and built a cooler slide.

Mounted it in the trailer and it couldn’t have fit much better. I was worried I was going to have to outboard the slides for vertical clearance when I ordered. Glad I didn’t have to as I didn’t want to waste space inside the cargo box. There’s about 3/4 inch clearance above the cooler.
