You know, as a kid we always said, “Sticks & stones, may break my bones, but words will never harm me.” I always thought it was a silly kids saying, but it seems like there is merit to it. People, these days, get all bent out of shape, over people they don’t even know, saying something on social media. We teach kids now, that words are hurtful, instead of teaching them to be mentally strong.

Yeah you're exactly right. Rather than ignore or see that it's just someone's opinion it's everyone's job these days to be sensitive to others feelings. Be accountable for yourself and stop asking others to help create your safe place.
